At the time that I'm writing this review, my 2001 Jaguar S-type 4.0 is in the shop for the aforementioned problems. I bought the car as an executive demo, and have had it for over 2 months now.
I recently noticed a loud noise coming from the engine when I started the car in the mornings. I took the car to the dealer and the technician immediately diagnosed an exhaust leak. On top of that, he said that strangely, my Jag is leaking tiny amounts of steering fluid leak. He said this is the first S-type he has seen with this problem.
I'm not familiar with mechanics, but my dad says this is problem not to be expected from any new car, let alone a premium luxury sedan. To make myself feel better, I just associate it with British quirkiness!
Other than that, the ride is excellent especially with my car's optional sports package, and the cabin is very comfortable. My Jag is equipped with everything except the navigation system. I even have the voice activation feature and the integrated cell phone all of which work wonderfully.
On top of that, the car draws looks everywhere it goes and is a blast to drive. I would still chose a Jag over any German or Japanese product any day!

I have a beautiful sapphire blue 2000 S-Type. I have had over 20 trips to the dealer because of repeated problems. The most disturbing problems just to name a few is having no brakes, and the sway bar having to be replaced twice. The problem is always corrected. However, I am tired of going to the dealership and I never know what is going to go wrong or at what time. I definitely think I should not have to visit the dealership so often. I have written the home office and have not receive a letter or comment about my concerns.
