2002 Jaguar X-Type 2.5 from North America

Summary:

Not sure what to make of her yet

Faults:

A month after purchasing the car, the water pump needed to be replaced. The previous owner had the same problem exactly a year ago, and therefore the warranty was still valid.

Three days after picking up the car from the dealer, the radiator had a hole, and needed to be replaced as well.

I've finally started driving the car, and all was going well until now the yellow engine light showed up, and the message board informed me that the cruise is not available.

I'm supposed to bring the car into the dealer to check this, but I'm fed up with missing work, and running all the time to deal with this touchy car.

General Comments:

I'm not quite sure what to make of this baby yet. It could be just some bad timing or a serious money pit. I'm in the hole so far for $1,000 and counting. One thing I do know, when she's running fine and there are no issues, I absolutely love her. The interior is beautiful and very elegant for a low-end luxury vehicle.

The outside is gorgeous, and is very different from the BMW's and Audi's of her class. The handling is probably her greatest asset, as I've driven every car out there, and she handles the road incredibly. The only set back are the parts and labor to repair if there are issues. I only hope the my days at the Hag dealer are over.

I'll keep you posted.

2002 Jaguar X-Type 3.0 V6 from North America

Summary:

Jag the Junky... You know it's a charm

Faults:

Let's just start out by saying "Jag the Junky". This car was literally a POS (Piece of $#!&). It starting getting old seeing this piece of junk going on a tow truck several times.

After owning it for only ONE day, this piece of trash decides to break down on me! 6th lower rod bearing went out, driving through the city park going 15mph. I was told by the dealer I was "Hot Riding the Car". Yeah, so much for going 15mph!! It had to be replaced with another crappy engine!! Wasn't about a month later, after being in the shop about 3 weeks, the fuel pump decides to leave me hanging in the median of a busy road!!! I don't CARE WHAT ANYBODY TELLS YOU, THESE CARS ARE JUNK!!!

General Comments:

STAY AWAY.

2002 Jaguar X-Type Sport 2.5L from North America

Summary:

Piece of crap!!!

Faults:

I bought my 2002 Jaguar X-Type, and within 3 months the tranny went out. Cost me $3500 to have it rebuilt by a local shop, but the dealership wanted $5000+.

I have had an issue with a water leak that I cannot find, even after using stop leak; still have to put water in it. Replaced the thermostat and housing, plus o-ring, but still leaking somewhere.

The check engine light has come on and cost me $$ four different times in the past two years.

DSC system fault light is on, and dealership told me the repairs would start at $300, and could go into the thousands.

Passenger door won't always open from the outside on the first pull, takes multiple pulls.

Trunk won't latch without multiple attempts to shut it, and then the interior warning light "boot open" will stay lit even if boot is closed.

I love the look of this car, and my wife loves this car deeply, but with all of the maintenance issues it has had, I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone, and I will never buy a Jaguar again.. EVER!!!

This car got me with its looks the first time I saw it, and it is going to break my wife's heart to get rid of it, but I cannot keep paying for a used car that keeps costing me $$ every single month. The parts for this car are ridiculously expensive, and difficult to find on the net as well. Don't buy a 2002-2006 Jaguar X-Type, no matter how much you love the looks!!! I did, and now I am paying for it, literally!!!

General Comments:

I am willing to be a part of a class action law suit, because it is obvious that the transmission was flawed. The tranny place that I had fix mine, commented that he had fixed so many of these, he could do it blindfolded. The first phone call I made to the transmission shop was almost a one way conversation; as soon as I said Jaguar X-Type, the guy told me it was going to be bad. I had two different shops check it out, and I even got mad at the first shop when they quoted me the price, because I thought they were trying to overcharge me, but boy was I wrong!! I had never heard of a car transmission that expensive!

Count me in on the lawsuit!!!

These cars are basically Ford Mondeo's, not what we in UK call proper Jags. Go for the XJ or the newer XF, lovely cars.
