General Comments:

2002 Jaguar X-Type 3.0 - sport track.

Never, ever will I purchase a Jaguar again. I would rather live in peace and ride a bicycle and not have to worry about all the clinks/clanks/ and all the money that I threw out the window.

The car has been complete junk since I purchased the car. Every time I turn around there is another problem.

I'm so frustrated with the car I just want to take a match to it and watch it slowly melt to the ground.

I've called Jaguar many times and no-one will help or listen to me.

2002 Jaguar X-Type 2.5 from North America

Summary:

Disappointed, disgusted

Faults:

Engine Malfunction light still on after 5 trips and over $1000.00 to dealer.

I have taken my car back to the dealer (which car is still under warranty) 5 times and each time I am told something different. I have replaced gaskets, points, battery, emmission blown out and still within a day or two from leaving the dealership the light appears. My last visit I was told that it is the catalytic convertor and this would cost me an additional 1200.00. Needless to say, I am currently driving my car with the light on. I don't want to continue to pay for someone apparently guessing at what is wrong.

General Comments:

I love the look of the car. I have always wanted to own a Jaguar. However, I have always purchased a new vehicle about every 5 years and have never experienced this kind of a problem where the dealership or warranty will not help.

2002 Jaguar X-Type Sport 2.5 Gas from North America

Summary:

Dream Car with Big Problems

Faults:

Transmission shot at 64K miles. I had my mechanic contact the Jaguar Dealer, who laughed and said, 'tell her to trade it in, those cars are junk. They have lots of problems.' The dealer said that!

Price at dealer to replace $5100. My mechanic: $3,800. Two days labor because the whole engine has to come out in order to replace tranny. Called Jaguar direct, they will offer no good will on replacing it. I am so disappointed. There are lots and lots of documented cases of the same thing happening to that make and model, and I think there will be even more as the mileage on them gets into the 60K range. The transmission apparently is manufactured in Japan, and I am concerned that even if I do go ahead with the repairs it will crap out again in short order. I am astonished that their very own dealer said that. I am even more surprised that there hasn't been a recall or class-action lawsuit filed. I am ready to pursue this vigorously because I really think Jaguar dropped the ball on this and should compensate their consumers for it.

General Comments:

I love this car. I want to stay a Jag customer, but they are making it really hard to stay brand loyal. Their posture on this is that the car is too far out of warranty there's no way they can help out. But this isn't an isolated case and transmissions shouldn't die at 64K. There are so many others who experienced this same thing. I don't care what the warranty says~ the transmission is defective. My guess is that because I drive the car 'easy' I probably managed to keep it on the road longer, but the inevitable has finally occurred. I am a small business owner in a new field trying to make a go of it, putting kids through school. I can't afford this type of repair, it is so unnecessary. If I follow the dealer's advice and dump it I won't get anything for it and will be upside down in my loan.

As a fellow Jag lover who made the X-Type plunge in 2001, it breaks my heart, and wallet, to read comments like yours.

I too was left "out in the cold" by Jaguar, regarding a failed transfer casing, on the all wheel drive X-type.

I, unfortunately, was 200 miles from home when the car died on me, resulting in insult to injury, as far as a 600 dollar towing bill. Then I come to the reality that my 50 thousand dollar Jag, (43k, plus all the bells and whistles), is almost worthless in resale only six years after purchase. And, the manufacturer refuses to take responsibility, for a defective design in the all wheel drive part of the transfer case. That cost me 4 grand to fix.

I think all us X-Type SUCKERS should file a class action suite, and make FORD pay for the LIES, they have fed us, about this cars problems. I am mad as hell. I adore Jaguars! How dare FORD take this icon of automotive perfection,"out for a one-way drive". CLASS ACTION NOW!!!

Ouch, I was looking at these reviews as I was regretting that I bought an Alfa Romeo due to electrical problems. I was planning to buy X Type or the Alfa, these are the 2 cars in my list. It seems the Jag is even worse than the Alfa. I'm planning to sell the Alfa and get an X Type, but I think I will just fix it and keep it for now.

Thanks for the headsup guys.
