2002 Jaguar X-Type from North America

Summary:

Horrible!!

Faults:

2002 Jag X type is the worst car on the market. I can't even begin to tell you the problems I've had with that car in one year. Transmission was the biggest problem at 30,000 miles then locks, then the sun/moon roof just before getting rid of the nightmare the throtle sensor was about to go. My advice to anyone get rid of the car ASAP, things will keep going wrong.

The resale on this car is the worst!! all I can say is I strongly warn anyone NOT to get this car.

2002 Jaguar X-Type SE 2.1 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Sensible and comfortable, but won't break any land speed records

Faults:

The only problem I have ever had is that the passenger airbag light stays on occasionally.

General Comments:

I was very apprehensive before buying this car, given the poor reputation of Jaguar, and having read some of the reviews.

There was slightly less that 20K miles on the car when I bought it, and I have slightly more than 30K on it now.

I am very happy with my purchase! I have not had one single problem with the car. It looks great and regularly receives compliments (usually from people who know nothing about cars!!).

I had the Volvo S80 before this, and while it was certainly quicker than the Jag, it certainly wasn't more comfortable. I have also had the E200 Merc, and I wouldn't put them in the same ballpark.

It is a bit heavy on juice, especially around town, but given that I don't do much mileage, this isn't a problem.

I can't comment on the main dealer as I get it serviced by a local non-franchised garage.

Overall, I would have no hesitation in recommending this car. While it is slow from a standing start, it will move well once it gets going.

2002 Jaguar X-Type 3.0 3.0L V6 from North America

Summary:

It should have a recall for this transmission

Faults:

I own a 2002 Jaguar X-Type 3.0L automatic.

I received a gearbox fault while I was driving back home, which is a little off two hours away. Half way the fault came on, the car jerked and luckily the transmission didn't go completely. I stopped the car, turned it off and referred to my manual. Well after I noticed that nothing really said anything about it in the manual, I decided to try to drive it again. It started to accelerate, but slowly as if I were starting off in second or third gear. The shop informed me I have to replace my entire transmission.

Need new suspension as well. Shocks are done.

General Comments:

Great car aside from these transmission problems; definitely think a recall should be made on the 02/up X-Type automatic Jaguars.

2002 Jaguar X-Type SE 3.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Beauty is definitely skin deep here!

Faults:

Intermittent speed and rev counter failures.

Intermittent fuel gauge failure.

Whining drive train (since purchase!)

Defective outside temperature sensor (replaced 2005).

Auto gearbox failure (July 2007).

Driver door handle broke (replaced 2004).

General Comments:

We got a nice bunch of flowers when we bought this car (X-Type 3.0 ltr) - probably because we were taking another dummy off their hands!! They were OK about replacing parts until we ran out of warranty, then we were treated really badly by the service manager.

Our gearbox failed last week, and we were quoted £4000 for a repair with a reconditioned box. After phoning Jaguar head office and complaining about the quality of their product (or lack thereof), we managed to get a 50% reduction on the price of the part.

I recommend all owners who encounter this problem to do the same - they acknowledged it was an issue, but did not go so far as to offer a free replacement.

You say that the drive train has been whining since you bought it? Why would you buy it if it was whining in the first place, and why would you not take it back if you noticed soon after? Doesn't make sense.
