1997 Jaguar XJ6 L from North America
Summary:
XJ!! The X is for extreme the J is for jealousy
Faults:
We have had some problems with the coils and eventually replaced them all.
General Comments:
Overall this has been a trememdously reliable vehicle.
It does not deserve the bad rap it gets.
The car is over 8 years old and still turns heads; causing extreme jealousy for those poor soles driving BMW's and Mercedes' wondering why no one gawks at their cars this way.
No other car can compete with the lines and beauty of a Jaguar XJ series.
It is truly the world's most beautiful car with better than average reliability.
I would recommend this car to anyone.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I agree with you on the bad rap of Jags, and that they are sexy, but I don't think it's fare to knock all German cars either. I own a 1989 BMW 635, and I believe it's one of the sexiest cars ever designed. I am about to purchase a 1997 XJ6L, not to replace my 635, but to save it.

I couldn't have put it better myself. People look in awe and appreciation so often, there are times when I even get a little embarrassed! Looking at, owning and driving this beautiful car is better than sex! Coventry for ever!

I don't know about extreme jealousy, but the classic Jags (i.e. pre S type and X type) are all exquisite looking cars, and women are particularly receptive to those stunning flowing lines. The word is 'sexy', I think. By the same token, Mercs and BMWs, superbly engineered as they are, just don't have it - they're clumsily drawn and unsubtle - designed to be imposing rather than beautiful, and there's a critical difference (shame the new XJ lacks the XJ40's lovely graceful lines). Still, as anyone who's had a classic Jag of any description will tell you, they create an almost universally positive reaction in passers by (the bits falling off haven't spoiled their pure aesthetic appreciation) and other drivers - except those in German cars who, who IMHO are an aggressive and humourless bunch (don't signal, hang half an inch behind you at 80MPH, you know the sort...).
