1992 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0L High-Output V-6 from North America

Summary:

Last of a great breed -- the Cherokee Sport

Faults:

Water pump replaced at 115000 miles.

Regular maintenance items -- brakes and such.

Battery replaced periodically.

General Comments:

This is a great car. It has never left me sitting in ten years of ownership. It requires very little maintenance and the repairs are inexpensive to perform.

The dealer left a lot to be desired. At one point they needed to fix the rear license-plate lighting harness. They charged $300 to "jiggle the wires" until the light was working again -- they didn't even replace anything! I subsequently started going to an independent garage.

The ride isn't great, but what do you expect from a car that's meant to be driven off-road? The poor ride quality isn't as noticeable when driving as it is when riding.

I'm 6'3" tall and the comfort of the front seat leaves a lot to be desired. I can't get it back far enough to really be comfortable.

The styling is nice, the car handles well, and I don't have any major issues with it. It's a shame they don't make the Cherokee Sport anymore.

1992 Jeep Cherokee Country 4.0L V6 from North America

Summary:

One of the best vehicles ever made!!!

Faults:

The radiator had to be replaced after an accident.

The air conditioner needed recharging after about 140,000 miles.

General Comments:

This jeep handles better than any car I've ever driven (my parents own a Cadillac and a Buick Road-master).

It has remarkable power for its size. I've raced several sports cars and never was blown out. It also hauls well. I've moved several times (pulling U-Hauls and other trailers).

Even though I own a 2WD, it still holds its own offroad. I know from experience.

In my opinion, it is one of the best "no-nonsense" vehicles ever made. If you want Cadillac comfort and style... buy a Cadillac. If you want something that performs... regardless of terrain or weather.. buy a Cherokee.

1992 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 4.0 from North America

Summary:

A great workhorse!

Faults:

Driver's seat starting to show its age.

It rattles on the interior quite a bit, mostly from the plastic cover on the tail - probably going to throw some nice trim screws in it.

Full tune-up at 120,000 was rather pricey.

Replaced master cylinder, calipers, wheel cylinders, rotors, drums, and lines at 128,000 - master cylinder was cracked, front left caliper was lazy, rear right wheel cylinder was damaged, lines were old.

Replaced ignition coil at 132,000 miles.

Engine needs a valve job, new lifters, and probably new a camshaft (due to wear from the hydraulic lifters).

Steering is loose - probably needs new ball joints.

Roof rack leaks up front, needs to be resealed (probably due to carrying too much drywall up there on more than one occasion...)

General Comments:

Other than the issues listed above, the vehicle has served me well, and has definitely done more than it was designed for on a few occasions...

No matter what I need to do - go to work, go camping, go on a road trip, get fertilizer, take the dogs to the park, what have you - the Jeep does it all, and does it all well. Definitely an excellent choice for the do it yourselfer, and the all around suburban adventurer.

1992 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0 L I6 from North America

Summary:

Great vehicle, always wanted one

Faults:

Had to replace the water pump twice and the transmission once.

General Comments:

When I bought it I was one of the larger vehicles on the road and now I am dwarfed by the current crop of SUVs.
