2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0L from North America

Summary:

Durable, reliable, just a bit less comfortable

Faults:

Absolutely nothing.

My Jeep seems to have excessive brake dust on the the front wheels, but there are no problems with them.

General Comments:

This car is dependable and performs exactly as advertised. It is powerful, durable, and very inexpensive for a 4X4. This Jeep is a bit noisy, has some vibration when stopped in gear, and rides like a shopping cart. This is a good vehicle if you are willing to give up a little bit of comfort for a dependable, durable, and powerful 4X4.

2001 Jeep Cherokee Classic 4.0 Liter from North America

Summary:

Jeeps are true, off road capable vehicles!

Faults:

Vehicle has a loud and rough standing idle which can be annoying. I have chosen to accept it.

Vehicle has an intermittent whining noise coming from the rear brakes.

Vehicle requires constant correction to hold a straight line on the highway.

My friend, who also owns a Jeep, does not speak highly of the local dealer so I avoid them at all cost. I choose to do all of the maintenance myself.

General Comments:

This model Jeep is a rough riding vehicle and should not be purchased by anyone who desires the ride of a sedan. This is not a car-based SUV! Having said that, it is one of the most capable, inexpensive, four wheel drive vehicles you can buy.

My Jeep easily transports me to all of my off-road destinations. Unlike my previous four by four, it has yet to let me down.

Wonderful vehicle to load up with camping gear; from the cab, to the roof, to my mountain bikes mounted on my hitch based carrier.

The tried and true manual transfer case is the only way to go for those who never want to be stranded off road, stuck in two wheel drive because of a push button system that failed.

This vehicle provides solid assurance on snow covered highways.

I love my Jeep and would definitely buy another one. Keep in mind that I am a thirty something male and do not mind the rough ride characteristics.

2001 Jeep Cherokee Limited 4WD 4.0L Six from North America

Summary:

Great vehicle for those who have to go in the snow, and still want comfort

Faults:

This Jeep has been a delight to own because nothing has gone wrong with it.

I have noticed that one outside (bolster) panel of the driver's seat is exhibiting an unusual amount of premature wear of the leather. On that part of the seat, the leather seems loose and very wrinkled, when compared to the remainder of the interior which is smooth and taut.

General Comments:

This is a very rare and enjoyable Jeep. One can see a "Sport" or a "Classic" on most every street, but the sighting of a Limited is a rare event. Limiteds are the units with leather interior.

Having never owned a 4-wheel drive before, I am amazed at the prowess of this vehicle in the snow as well as on water soaked roads.

She has no squeaks, rattles, nor air whistles, and is a pleasure to drive.

However, I find the bottom part of the seat to be too short. The seat bottoms need to be extended forward, towards the instrument panel by at least four inches.

The paint quality is almost Mercedes-Like! (Mine is Silver Metallic)!

I noticed the same problem with the leather on the passenger side seat; I thought it was caused by my regular carpool rider. Interesting to hear that it happens to another Jeep.

After looking at the new 2004/05 Chevy Tahoe's, I decided to keep my 2001 as I love almost everything about it; size, ride, features, 4x4 performance, etc. However, it's the small fixes that are starting to bug me; replaced all of the a/c parts (before warranty ended, thank goodness!) and the passenger door regulator. At 38k, the driver's side window regulator goes out. Ouch, what an expensive fix.

No Squeeks or rattles, paint like a Mercedes??? Maybe you have a Mercedes. Don't get me wrong I own a 2001 limited as well and, have not had one single problem, but, lets be realistic, although a blast to drive it is unrefined and sounds like a winning slot machine when one hits a bump. This truck is only jingle free when its off!!! Even when idleing at a red light the 4X4 shifter sounds like a drum role. I still wouldn't trade mine for the world!!! Keep truckin!!!
