1987 Jeep Comanche Base 2.5 I4 from North America
Summary:
Fun, and has paid for itself over and over
Faults:
Clutch slave cylinder leaks.
Valvetrain ticks.
Muffler and catalytic converter rusted through, replaced.
Seat torn and very stained.
No rust.
Replaced steering column in 2009.
Clearcoat on hood and roof chipping after 20 years.
Rubber bushings spongy after 20 years.
General Comments:
Purchased on impulse for $440 in 2007 from original owner who bought it in 1986 as a 1987 model from AMC/Jeep dealer in Bend, Oregon, USA.
Base model with black and pink factory pinstripes on pale yellow paint. Tan/sand interior.
2.5L AMC 4 cylinder, 4 speed manual transmission, 2WD, Dana 35 axle.
1" lift, Cherokee Limited alloy wheels, fiberglass canopy.
Gets fairly good mileage on highway, but struggles on uphill runs and mountain roads. 2.5L is anemic at best; this vehicle will win no drag-races.
Very solid offroad for 2wd.
Large dent in drivers side door/cab, but door still opens.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

The muffler and converter "rusted through", but the truck has "no rust", eh?
