1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.0 litre petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Generally comfortable off-roader

Faults:

Faulty tick-over at 10,000 miles - took 18 months to fix.

Rear differential noisy at 30,000 miles and needed expensive service.

Seized brake caliper at 50,000 miles.

Over-tightened handbrake caused wheel to overheat at 52000 miles.

General Comments:

Drives and corners well for a 4x4, but obviously a serious off-roader so is not so good on the road - the ride is quite bouncy.

Quite quick generally, and does 20mpg (imperial) overall which I don't think is bad.

I felt badly let down by the servicing - the few problems I had took far too long to fix.

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.7 V 8 from North America

Summary:

Great dependable vehicle

Faults:

So far the only thing I have had to change is the battery.

General Comments:

I love the get up and go it has, decent on gas, considering it is a V8. I have only changed the brakes three times the whole time I have had this Jeep.

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.7 from North America

Summary:

Except for front rotor problems not too bad!

Faults:

Rear axle needed major repair at 50,000 miles. Pinion seals leaking.

Rear passenger side window regulator (motor) has failed twice so far. Once at 51,000 miles and again at 53,000.

Rear rotors and pads replaced.

Front rotors replaced twice in less than 10,000 miles! Turns out there is a Technical Service Bulletin out from Chrysler that the front calipers "may not" replace fully which causes them to rub on the rotors and causes them to warp! CALL CHRYSLER AND COMPLAIN and if this is happening to you. If enough people call and it is a big enough problem, they will recall them. Right now it's just a T.S.B. to the dealers, not a recall. Also, the dealers will not tell you about it because then it may end up being money out of their pocket.

Poor gas mileage. Still not sure what the problem is.

General Comments:

If you are having front rotor issues... call CHRYSLER AND FILE A COMPLAINT! There is currently a T.S.B. (Technical Service Bulletin) out on the front calipers for this make/model year!

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.7L V8 from North America

Summary:

Dependable, but on very thin ice

Faults:

Transfer case rear seal developed a leak at 35,000 miles. This was fixed for $200.

Rear driver side door seal fits terribly and leaks like crazy. It is too small for the opening leaving bare space in the upper radius.

A bank of relays in the transmission is frozen. These relays are responsible for the backup lights. They were stuck on at all times. I could pay $500 in parts and labor, but am choosing to run without light bulbs.

Front end alignment is an issue. I don't know if the "quadra-trac" adds to the problem or not. I cannot get the thing to drive straight to save my life.

The actuator in the plenum that directs air flow will switch to defrost and then back after a while. It must be picking up stray voltage from somewhere.

Some of the body panels fit poorly, but that is the price you pay for a first year new vehicle.

General Comments:

There is quite a bit of power for such a light vehicle. This makes it a blast to drive.

It can haul my 26' travel trailer and hang with much larger vehicles.

It handles well in the trails and in over a foot of snow.

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee larado 4.0 6 cylinder from North America

Summary:

A great vehicle for quality and comfort

Faults:

There has been no problems with my Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo.

General Comments:

I read my owners manual from cover to cover when I purchased my Jeep I think if a lot more people would do this they would have less complaints.

The Jeeps handle and act differently than a lot of vehicles. Someone planning to purchase one and expect the same ride as there previous car would be in for a big surprise. They are a SUV not a car so don't expect them to be like one.

Anyone planning to buy a Jeep should remember we are talking about a SUV which means less miles per gallon of gas.

I am very pleased with my Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo.
