2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 V6 from North America
Summary:
Stylish, but not worth $30k
Faults:
The rotor problem. My steering wheel started shaking after 10k miles, fixed it at 13k miles.
It started shaking again at 18k miles, so I went to the dealer a week ago.
Thanks to www.carsurvey.org, I came to know that the rotor is like a known problem for Grand Cherokee Laredo, so I complained about this problem at the dealer, and they just replaced 2 front rotors under the warranty.
Last time I fixed the rotor, it was not covered by warranty, since the brake warranty ends at 12k miles, but this time they fixed it under warranty.
Sounds weird, huh? I guess they don't want to admit the problem and process an official recall service.
So... Grand Cherokee owners, go to your dealer and complain! Then they'll replace your rotors.
General Comments:
Other than the rotor, I had several small problems with this car.
Those small problems are very annoying sometimes...
I would not recommend this car to anybody...
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

Well I've been to Portugal so I know that some of your back roads can be rough, but not too rough for a Fiat panda. I live in New Hampshire, and some of our unsurfaced washboard mountain roads can be far worse. But that is about the limit for a Grand Cherokee. In spite of the butch ads, these vehicles are neither designed or implemented for true off-roading without thousands of $$$ of undercarriage upgrades.
Infact, when I took mine in for its $2000 front end replacement a few months ago (40,000 miles), the dealer suspiciously asked me if I was taking it off road. "Because that'll kill your front end, you know..."
By the way I grew up in Wales around spartan SWB Land Rovers that could climb a greased flagpole, so I know what I'd take off road and it wouldn't be a bloody Jeep.
