2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee from North America

Summary:

I'm noticing that it is poorly developed

Faults:

On snowy surface the brakes make noise and vibrate on the foot pedal.

Constant squeaky noise when driving over any size bumps in the road. (This is the first winter it has seen. We usually store it in the garage for winter months.

Tires are worthless. Even in 4-wheel drive.

Transmission has slippage since the purchase date. It finally kicks in with a hard kick to it after starting to move forward.

General Comments:

The exterior is beautiful, but underneath... not built to perfection.

This is the best vehicle I've ever driven in the snow... and if the transmission is slipping... HELLO TAKE IT IN TO THE DEALER AND HAVE IT REPAIRED!!!

Good god.

"On snowy surface the brakes make noise and vibrate on the foot pedal."

Um, that's called "anti-lock brakes". The big new thing that has been out for about 15 years now. The computer pulsates the brake pads faster than you could pump them, which prevents the brakes from locking up on slippery surfaces. In other words -- it's supposed to do that.

"Constant squeaky noise when driving over any size bumps in the road. (This is the first winter it has seen. We usually store it in the garage for winter months."

Well, that's what happens when you drive over pot holes and the rubber bushings and plastic interior components are exposed to subzero temperatures.

"Tires are worthless. Even in 4-wheel drive."

You may want to consider a set of the vast choices of tires available. No tire, even in 4WD helps you stop on ice, unless you buy the Blizzak or other ice tire.

"Transmission has slippage since the purchase date. It finally kicks in with a hard kick to it after starting to move forward."

Based on the other comments, somehow I suspect the driver has something to do with this. Probably spinning the tires on ice until they burn down to pavement and then catch traction.

"The exterior is beautiful, but underneath... not built to perfection."

I'm sorry to say this, but these people don't seem to know a whole lot about automobiles. Complaining about anti-lock brakes that pulsate on ice, and about tires that are no good on ice, and rubber bushings squeaking while hitting bumps in subzero temperatures... get real!

Funny you think it's so great on snow, as BMW showed extensive tests in 2000 where a 3 Series outran a Jeep on snow and ice - they even made an ad campaign about it. The Jeep was all over the place and the BMW was straight as an arrow. And that was a rear wheel drive 3 Series to boot!

Are you responding to the right review?? Trying to see where anybody said the Jeep Grand Cherokee is "so great on snow".

I suppose BMW ran an ad campaign about how a 3 Series outran a Jeep off-road, too? No... didn't think so. Now THAT'S funny!

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7L V8 from North America

Summary:

Perfect SUV for a family of 4 or less

Faults:

The seat heater in the drivers seat had to be replaced twice. Once under warranty, once not.

The front brakes had to be replaced at around 13,000 miles, but after that I never had a problem with them.

The front passenger side window regulator broke around 72,000 miles, was replaced easily with an E-bay bought part.

The steering wheel leather started to break down and disintegrate after being about two years old.

The transmission started to shift funny and hard around 70,000 miles. A tranny shop said it was the throttle position sensor. After a trip to the parts store, $25.00 and about 15 minutes it was fixed.

Air conditioner compressor clutch went bad at about 70,000 miles. Again replaced with an E-bay bought part.

General Comments:

I had this Jeep for 5 years and it was the best vehicle I have ever owned. Between my wife and I we have owned 6 SUV's and this by far was our favorite. It had plenty of power for anything you wanted to tow or haul. It had a nice ride, comfortable, but not squishy or truck-like. The brakes were always tight and did not vibrate.

There were a few little problems with it, but there was never anything wrong that I could not fix in my driveway in less than a day.

Due to an expanding family and the fact that the Jeep GC will not fit 2 car seats and a booster seat across the back, we were forced to sell it and buy a minivan. I will most certainly own another! It was the most reliable, comfortable, easy to drive and easy to park vehicle I have ever owned.
