I have a 2000 Jeep CL. The headlights were really cloudy due to oxidation from the sun. I used really fine sandpaper then washed and cleaned the lens. After they dried, I sprayed a clear coat on them. They look pretty clear.

As for the headlight issue, my 1999 Jeep lights were very cloudy. Advanced Auto Parts sells a kit to clean them. I purchased it for about $12 and cleaned both headlights. They looked brand new.

Very informative site. I had a similar issue with the brakes not working when I turned on the head lights on my 2000 JGC. Fixed the issue based on a previous post from this site. Used the screw driver method and lightly lift the ground contacts for better connection (inserted small pin). Will work for now and didn't cost me a thing. Thanks for the help! -lt.

I'm so glad I found this site! Frustration here as well. This is my second JGC -- first one bought in 1993 and kept until 2000 when the second one was purchased. I'm having all the same problems with my 2000 that seems to be commonly listed on this site:
1) Door Locks -- This one is the most frustrating because it keeps happening on a consistent basis and appears to affect other things. I replaced Driver door (01/05), Driver back door (10/06), Passenger back door (12/06), and Passenger front door (11/07). I'm hearing the noise again so another one is going or has gone bad.
2) Brake Lights -- This has never been fixed. I'm going to try what has been suggested on this site.
3) Tweeters -- Have been buzzing for a long time. I shifted the sound to the rear. Thought it was just me. I'm considering buying some new ones from the sites listed here and fixing it myself.
4) CD Player -- This stopped working a long time ago as well. Thought it was just me. Never fixed it and have been listening to the radio. Thank goodness for ipods now!
5) Lights Flickering -- This one is the most interesting of the bunch. I've had it happen at different times, but currently is happening when I am driving (inside lights and dash will turn on and/or flicker). I think it is either connected to the lock issue or the brake light issue. Regarding the locks, if a lock gets stuck in the unlock position and the alarm tries to set it can cause all kinds of other strange things to happen that result in a half-look of the alarm going off.
6) Lift Supports Failing -- I replaced my rear lift gate support in 01/08. To be fair this one might have been my fault. However, the Hood lift supports were replaced in 01/05 and are currently bad again and need to be replaced. The hood is primarily only opened when taken for service. It shouldn't be bad again already!
7) Rattling Noise -- This is the one that sounds like it is coming from the glove box. This recently started happening and I'll see if the suggestion above to tighten the front shock.
8) Popping Noise when Turning -- I think this happens on hard turns and only to the left. I didn't see much here regarding this issue. It doesn't always happen and the dealership was never able to determine the cause so this one is still a mystery.
9) Left Turn Signal -- This seems to trigger my interior lights flickering.
10) Engine Rev -- When I first turn on the vehicle it revs the RPMs way up and then settles down. Sometimes when driving it will do the same thing.
11) Transmission Shift -- Sometimes the transmission will have a hard shift changing gears (mainly in the low gears).

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee problems.
I have two issues with my JGC: first off, there is a loud crashing sound that seems to be coming from the suspension. It only does this during the winter months. I have had it checked out and nobody can find the problem. I leased it before I bought it, so I wasn't too worried, but now that I own it I would like it fixed.
Secondly, just recently I started to notice a ticking sound coming from the driver's side where the windshield meets the hood. The sound is under the hood, but I have no idea what it is.
Everything else is great! Any suggestions?
Thanks everyone,
Jeff.

I have a 2000 Grand Cherokee and the brake lights work when the headlights are off and do not work when the headlights are on. I've read on this site that I may be able to fix this problem myself using the instructions posted on Jan 1, 2005 at 14:02. The alternative is to spend several hundred dollars.

I also have a 2000 JGC Laredo... The only problems I have had are the radiator fan which was covered by some recall... and the crazy left brake light only working when the lights are off, but when the lights are on (for night use), the left tail brake light in non-functioning! Sounds like there is a lot of people with this odd problem... I hope Jeep does something to make this right. I'm going to let them know about it also, maybe they will hear enough about it to help.

The only reason we haven't gotten rid of our 2000 JGC, is we can't afford another vehicle payment right now.
The latest in the tale of the tail light is the turn signals/hazard lights; they just stopped working. We replace the flasher module, didn't fix it. Man I am sick of this vehicle!!! We've had every problem discussed on this site. JEEP NEVER AGAIN!!!

2000 Jeep Laredo---
We have had the ongoing problem being unable to unlock our back passenger door with the remote, however we can manually unlock it from the inside.
Tonight, our driver door made a funny sound as we locked it remotely from the outside. When we returned to the car, we were unable to remotely unlock it, had to climb through the passenger side and were also unable to manually unlock. The green arrow 'signals' blink when we click the remote... so I wonder if this is some sort of alarm or safety mechanism or if we are in the same boat as everyone else.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee-
I just found out the brake light was not working when the lights are on. I lifted the contact with a small piece of tinfoil, cleaned everything and we have light! Thank you all for the great posts. I had thought that the Heater Treater was a cheap and easy fix. BTW, I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone.

Greeting all, I own a 2000 GC Laredo, with about 72,000 on the clock. It is my third Jeep, my parents bought it as a "Certified Pre Owned" in 2001 with 11,000 miles on it. I just bought it from them last year.
We've been through a new water pump, which was covered by an extended warranty. That warranty has since expired.
I had the problem with the vehicle just totally dying in traffic for no apparent reason about 3 years ago. A mechanic friend fixed it finally after about $400 in parts.
The check engine light came on last year, it was related to a part in the transmission which cost about $300 with labor.
Now, my passenger side front door lock broke in the locked position. I picked up the part yesterday from a dealer for $107 and if I can get the door open, I'm attempting to change it myself.
Thanks to everyone for their tips and advice. I love my Jeeps, my parents have a 2005 GC Limited now that I'm in line for to buy next when they buy something else.
Glad to know I'm not alone with these issues, and I know what to watch out for now.

I have a 2002 Jeep Laredo with cloudy headlights, any suggestions on how to clean them, I have been told that my seals are broken and I need to replace them. Has anyone else had this problem?
