1985 Jeep Grand Wagoneer 360 Big Block from North America

Summary:

A few things to fix but well worth the investment

Faults:

Truck got into accident and was rolled 4 times at approximately 65MPH.

Back window hangs when rolling down.

Front driver window doesn't roll up or down.

Front passenger window hangs when rolling up.

Front windshield busted up from rolling.

Rear drive train goes into nuetral and hangs in neutral at random times (sometimes when going down the road).

Fuel, oil, and temp gages don't work.

Ignition won't start engine at times (simple solution carry extra battery cable and touch it to the positive side of battery and to starter wire).

Back passenger window busted out from rolling over.

No bright lights.

AC wired direct to battery.

No defrost.

Cruise control sometimes doesn't work.

Truck must be in neutral to engage four wheel drive.

No horn.

Only the inside rear view mirror works.

Doors don't close completely causing interior lights to come on while going down the road.

Tail gate must be opened from inside.

Rear windows don't roll down or up.

Power seat on driver side goes down at angle.

Radio doesn't work.

General Comments:

I bought the truck for $500 cash so I can't really complain much.

The 360 engine gives it lots of power.

The four wheel drive makes getting through muddy roads a cake walk.

Insurance is fairly cheap (140/month for an 18 yr old with not much of a driving record).

When the drive-train works like its supposed to it really drives like a dream with a nice smooth ride. The engine makes a nice "old truck" purring noise that sounds so mellow, but when you put the gas to it you can really feel the power that demands respect. It turns quick (especially when doing 100+). The interior is nice, mostly leather (kind of torn from years of wear), lots of room inside, and fairly comfortable for a off road vehicle.

I haven't had the chance to take it off road yet as I've only had it for about a week, but I won't be scared to at all there are a few dirt roads in my subdivision that are really bad and the truck got up those with no problems at all, it didn't even seem to struggle.

Overall a nice vehicle with plenty of room and power when I get a nicer one I might just keep this as a play toy.

1985 Jeep Grand Wagoneer 360 V8 from North America

Summary:

The greatest suv ever built!

Faults:

When I first got my Grand Wagoneer it didn't run. I got a complete tune-up preformed, the Ignition Coil rewired and it started right up. I also had all the electronics rewired.

General Comments:

I love the Four Wheel Drive, it rivals anything on the market today, you don't even have to stop to shift into it.

I'm not crazy about the 12mpg, which is the highest operating cost.

The car has incredible take-off and over all speed.

The car handles alright, but it's wider and longer than most cars.

It seats six, and is very luxurious.

I've been hit twice while driving, and both times the other cars were totaled leaving barely any damage on me or the car.

1985 Jeep Grand Wagoneer 5.9 V8 from North America

Summary:

Time + Effort + Money = One Great Vehicle

Faults:

I don't know the last owner of the Jeep, so I don't know all the work previously done. I've had problems with the electrical components, (power windows, locks, lights, etc,). This Jeep will need a new transmission and perhaps some engine work soon. The rear window and door does not work.

General Comments:

Although many things need replaced on the Jeep, it still starts and runs. There are not many cars on the road that are over 18 years old, and this is one of them. These cars are built to last... well at least built to fix, then last. I bought this car in Oregon and the car was able to make a 2,500 mile trip across the country. I just wish they wouldn't have stopped making the Grand Wagoner. It is a money pit well worth investing in.

What is with all of you people that seem to have problems with the rear windows of the Jeep. Just spray it down with WD-40 it will help a lot.

1985 Jeep Grand Wagoneer 5.9L 360ci from North America

Summary:

Love it and would like to keep it forever! Just too cool for off-road and cruising the beaches!

Faults:

I bought the Jeep in 1995 as a second truck and it ran great for about 1-2 years when the transmission went out. I had it rebuilt, on the way home the engine blew! Had the engine rebuilt and since the large stuff was done, did a lot of upkeep to everything overall.

I originally bought it for $3500.00, but put about another $7,000.00 into it over 3 months. Ever since it was rebuilt in late 1996 it has run perfectly and is more reliable than my newer 1999 Cherokee!

General Comments:

This is a classic Jeep and the first real Sports Utility Vehicle!

It's also a cheaper beach cruiser than a '40-41 Woody, but it's right up in a close second place! Just a way cool truck!

1985 Jeep Grand Wagoneer 360 V-8 from North America

Faults:

This Jeep Wagoneer had an after-market carberator on it when I bought, which caused some problems. After a few trips to the shop we got it straightened out, and it runs great.

The engine is very strong and the 4 WD capability is the best I've seen, it's a tank offroad! I use this car while I'm visiting Aspen, Colorado; where I bought it and where I keep it. You'll see a bunch of these older Jeeps in Aspen for good reason. For people that can afford any vehicle, the old reliable Wagoneer stills shines, especially in the winter!
