2005 Jeep Liberty Sport 3.7L from North America

Summary:

Best car I have ever had!

Faults:

Cloth seats would stain even with water.

General Comments:

My husband bought it for me in April 2006.

Handles a bit like a truck - which I love.

Gas mileage isn't great-knew that before buying.

Handles great on the highway - especially windy days.

I replaced the cloth seats with leather because the cloth seats would show even water marks. (Found the seats on eBay) Took an afternoon to replace.

Sunroof, 4x4, electrical all work great! No interior parts have broken off. The 4x4 is great in winter.

Towed my father's 1987 Dodge truck out of a ditch with no effort!

Love this car! Thinking about buying the new body style.

2005 Jeep Liberty Limited 3.7L V6 from North America

Summary:

Great SUV for any type of person

Faults:

The seats were very uncomfortable until they were broken in.

General Comments:

Great handling, OK gas mileage, fun to drive. I drive with somewhat of a lead foot and still get 17mpg.

2005 Jeep Liberty Limited 3.7L V6 from North America

Summary:

I love this car!

Faults:

So far just the ball joint recall.

General Comments:

The silver satin package on the interior gets smudges and smears on it very easily from dogs or spills or whatever.

Wind noise on the freeway seems a bit loud.

Seats are comfortable and car looks stylish.

Haven't taken it off-road yet, but hope to this summer assuming I can still afford to put gas in it!

Gas mileage is not great, but I've been averaging 18-20 with combined city/highway, I average it out after each time I fill up.

Owned a Jeep Wrangler years ago and I enjoy the Liberty for the fact that it is good for city driving as well as driving in the snow or mountains. I do miss the Wrangler, but I like the luxuries of the Liberty and wouldn't trade it for anything.

Wish it came w/ more standard features like leather seats and a sunroof standard on the limited edition but since I got it used I didn't get to make those choices. Also wish it had more storage compartments both up front in the passenger area and in the back (trunk) space. Possibly a hidden compartment under the floor in the trunk. I must admit that the way the back seats are situated there is quite a bit of room under them for storage while still allowing them to fold down w/o crushing things.

I wish I had bought Liberty now instead I bought a Chevrolet Tracker and I've grown very tired of its weak four cylinder engine.

2005 Jeep Liberty Sport 4x4 3.7 from Mexico

Summary:

Underachives

Faults:

Windows stuck (3 separate windows) - had to replace motors.

No local agency only a sales office, so service is non existent.

General Comments:

It's a fun car for around town. It is a high-ish vehicle so makes you 'feel' safer. I get around 14 mpg, less in the hills.

Seems to have no real power, very slow to 'kick in' when you need the speed.

My biggest beef is that although 'trail rated' and a 4x4 it has very little clearance in reality and I scrape the bottom a lot. It makes for a very slow journey in the mountains. I cannot see this manufacturers claim of 10"... it is a lot less.

I have a ranch in the hills in Oaxaca, Southern Mexico so I needed a car with a good off road capability. This car does not have it. I assure you.

Buy it for fun, DO NOT buy the 4x4 version for it is a waste of money. Buy it for your daughter to drive around shopping.

Good points on the ground clearance and gas mileage. Perhaps there is a lift kit that would help? Never the less, gas mileage is pitiful.

Lift kit? Real grown-ups don't mess around with junk like that!

2005 Jeep Liberty Limited 2.8 Crd diesel from North America

Summary:

Wife loves the jeep, hope its more reliable

Faults:

My starter was replaced at 2200Km, but fault of remote start.

Radio replace.

Recall on ball joints.

Recall on torque converter.

Transmission blew so badly at 6800km that it couldn't be rebuilt.

Bad throttle response off idle.

Engine runs poorly every once in a while Reason unknown.

General Comments:

The engine has a real bad flat spot off idle which becomes unnerving when trying to turn left through an intersection in a hurry. Too long a time to be turbo lag. It is supposed to have very little or no turbo lag.

Fuel mileage is low for a diesel, but I knew that before buying and still wanted it. Definitely better than the gas job, and love the sound.

I find the head room to be lacking for taller people.

Handles good, not like a sports car, but it is a jeep after all.
