My boyfriend and I bought a 2001 Kia Sportage about 3 or 4 months ago, and we love it. We have had no problems with it what-so-ever. I think the people that have had problems with their cars are just not taking proper care of them.

2007 Sportage. So far so good. I like the truck, I hope it doesn't have issues down the road. I have the front wheel drive version. I find it has enough power. It stops and starts gets me from A to B. I had to replace the factory tyres at 50,000k, which I can understand they put junk tyres on from the factory. My wife had a Kia in 1999, no issues, and in 2002 she traded for new Kia, no problems, and she traded that for 2008 Hyundai, no issues.

I purchased a 2000 Kia Sportage. In the first 10 months, it was in the shop for 9 months. The engine had a constant tapping noise, and every time it rained, my floor boards filled with water... Usually an inch or so. The power windows wouldn't work either. It wasn't until I told the dealer to keep the car and I would just make the payments to be rid of the headache, that he finally called for a rep. The rep came in and declared it a "LEMON" and gave me a replacement, a 2001 Kia Sportage.
My 2001 has 175,000 miles on it. I replaced the timing belt at about 60k miles because it went out, and I have small amounts of rain that collects in this one too. It's been acting up lately, but what car doesn't at 175k miles???

2 words.
FRAME ROT.
2001 Kia Sportage, new, right off the lot, and now after paying it off, it sits in the yard. Frame has holes in it and a crack. Was told that it will not make it on the road again. More people need to spread this word in order for Kia to own up to their poor design. If anyone wants to share in the cause to make Kia pay for our hard earned money, feel free to email me

Fair write up. Very impressed you go away with doing doughnuts in it! just about to get a 10 year old, 79k one. My aim is to run it for a year and scrap it.

For all of you with a 2001 Kia and a check engine light problem, do you know what code (s) you were getting when you had to replace the thermostat? I purchased a used 2001 Kia sportage in December 2006 and it's been in and out of the shop ever since for the check engine light. Different repair facilities have replaced everything from the gas cap to the front bumper. Now, the new repair shop wants to start replacing things that were replaced less than a year ago. I am particularly interested in the comments about Kia installing the wrong thermostat or sensor on all 2001 models. Does anyone know where I could find more information on that...Thank you!
