1993 Land Rover Freelander LX 1.8 petrol TDI from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Too many faults

Faults:

The head gasket went on it last year. Then the tail door electrics went on it and now the complete engine has gone on it. I paid about £6300 when I purchased it.

General Comments:

It ran smoothly on a normal basis and was good with the fuel, but totaly un-reliable and recommended for long distance family trips.

It is getting on a bit, so you must expect faults! However, Land Rover have a very poor reliability record for Freelanders equipped with engines other than the TD4.

Our family used Freelanders, but despaired of them and now run Suzukis with no issues at all. They do not have the perceived image of the Land Rovers, but are Japanese built and very sturdy. Our outgoing Vitara auto has covered 110,000 miles field/off road/heavy towing work with nothing other than routine servicing. Good customer service too.

Whatever he owns, it's not a Freelander - they were launched in 1997.
