1978 Land Rover Range Rover Two Door 3.8 V8 from Uganda
Summary:
Great, reliable off road vehicle and not as expensive to run as you might think
Faults:
Electrics - always a fun issue with older Range Rovers.
Interior falls apart.
General Comments:
This is an interesting old beast, but as it is now my second Range Rover (last one in Australia and fourth Land Rover generally) I could be called an enthusiast.
I have just recently moved to Uganda and bought the vehicle from a colleague. It has been completely rebuilt, but the first thing that strikes you is that although the design is more than 20 years old it outperforms many of todays vehicles operating in this environment.
It is strong, with a powerful engine and a reliable and well designed transmission.
The suspension is fully coil and ideal for remote African roads.
Tolerances are high and the vehicle's rigid structure mean that it can take a lot of punishment.
If you want a good vehicle that does not attract to much attention from undesirables, but can take you anywhere, an old RR is hard to go past.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
