1999 Lexus ES 300 V6 from North America

Summary:

Best car you could ever own

Faults:

I have replaced the water pump.

I have replaced the timing belt.

I have replaced the battery couple of times.

I have replaced the struts.

All the things I have replaced on the car have just been normal wear and tear items. I have never had a major repair.

General Comments:

Overall, this has been the best car I have ever owned. It still rides incredibly smooth and quiet. The maintenance has been so incredibly reasonable.

I have owned the car for over 12 years, and have put over 250,000 miles on it, and it still runs like the first day I bought it.

1999 Lexus ES 300 3.0 from United Arab Emirates

Summary:

Exellent value for money

Faults:

The A/C compressor stuck at 210000 Kilometers (2008). I can't expect that a compressor should work more than 4 or 5 years. I replaced the A/C compressor and filter and belt.

Shock absorbers are bit weak, giving some noise when passing bumps. Need to replace. The rest are all working fine and quiet.

Honestly I have no other complaints

General Comments:

I really happy with this car. There were some good reasons to purchase this car.

1) The car is very quiet for driving: I was very much impressed on the first drive. Acceleration is quick and smooth, braking is very effortless and superb. The transmission is smooth.

2) A/C: I am in UAE where summer is very hot! More than 50 degrees centigrade much of time, best A/C I found is Lexus A/C quick cooling reliable. No one can argue with it.

3) Maintenance: spare parts are very affordable compared to other luxury brands.

4) Superb material quality: no cracks or rubber melting have I found anywhere in the car. Many of Mercedes cars I found here have dash board material cracked, side mirror folding rubber, wind shield rubber is degraded and interior some plastics start to degrade (sorry to Mercedes owners).

5) Safety: 6airbags, ABS, traction control and other safety measures.

1999 Lexus ES 300 3.0 liter V6 from North America

Faults:

Air conditioner compressor, automatic transmission, all four struts, spark coils, air mass sensor, vehicle stability control computer, frequent brake pad replacement, leather on driver's seat not wearing well even with small, female driver.

General Comments:

Disappointment. This Lexus is no more or less troublesome than my Acura, Honda Prelude, and Chrysler Town and Country Limited. Unfortunately, Toyota/Lexus charges outrageous prices for their repair parts. Some Lexus dealers are very good at selling service that is not required by the car's manufacturer. In return for this abuse, however, they do wash your car and give women roses when they pick-up the car.

Sounds like the car was abused. Were you the first owner? Just like any car if it isn't properly maintained they will break. People seem to get the idea that Lexus' don't need to be maintained and will still run forever. That is not the case.

If you've had as much trouble with previous cars that you've had with this one, maybe it's you - not the car.

1999 Lexus ES 300 from North America

Summary:

Great value for a used car

Faults:

Transmission rebuilt after 140,000 miles. The transmission was not in working order after being rebuilt, so it had to be replaced by the transmission garage. This ordeal cost me about $2,500 and about six weeks of renting a car. I would recommend that you go to the Lexus dealer to have major work done!

The control arm was replaced at 130,000 miles ($400).

The bushings and struts need replaced.

Head gasket leaks a little.

Steering fluid has a leak.

General Comments:

I love the way this car handles and drives. The fuel economy isn't too bad. The car is very quiet and comfortable (as a Lexus should be).

The paint on this car is excellent.

Super quality vehicle.

I get compliments all the time from my students and folks around the community.

Overall, I love this car. Even though I had to put a new transmission in it, I plan on driving this car until it croaks. Because of the high maintenance, I will probably not buy another Lexus.
