2002 Lexus LS 430 4.3 from North America

Summary:

Love it!!!

Faults:

This is the best car you can buy if you want reliability. Never had one problem. My BMW 740iL that I previously owned was a total lemon. I have always had German cars and they are great to drive, but they spend most of the time in the shop. Buy a Lexus.. you won't be sorry.

General Comments:

Quiet and FAST.

2002 Lexus LS 430 LX 4.3L from North America

Summary:

Excellent

Faults:

Condensation in headlamp on left front. Lexus dealer replaced both headlamps, no charge.

Battery died at approximately 2 years and 25,000 miles. Dealer replaced at my home, no charge.

"Dimple"in dashboard vinyl cover. Dealer replaced dashboard, no charge.

Accessory belt noisey. Dealer has replaced twice at no charge.

Wood "cracked" slightly on steering wheel. Dealer replaced, no charge.

Paint peeling off wheels in the area where lug nuts are. Dealer replaced all wheels, no charge.

Both trunk "strut pistons"are shot at 60,000 miles. Dealer said replacement would be $500+!!!

The passenger side mirror does not fold in properly. Dealer said replacement would be $900+!!!

The car is metallic silver and chips whenever you look at it!! Paint chips easily.

General Comments:

The overall performance of the car is outstanding, but as you can see this one hasn't been without it's problems. The dealer has gone out of there way to correct the shortcomings so I will buy again from them when the time comes.

These are generally very well built cars w/o problems. this is the 1st of 4 Lexus I have owned that I have had problems with.

I bought replacement struts for mine from an eBay merchant for less than $10, as I recall. It took perhaps 5 minutes for me to install them. If possible, I never take my Lexus to the local dealer for service. Just as an aside, the dealers will likely also tell you that they are the only ones who can make or program Lexus keys. It's simply not true. I bought an extra transponder key, again from an eBay merchant. The car itself programs it when placed in the programming mode. Total cost was minimal.

Where can I purchase a replacement key except thru the dealer, and how can I program it?

Summary:

The smoothest car on the road

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

I've always wanted a Ls430 before I bought mine. I have 75000 miles on it, with no problems. I love the smooth ride to it.

If it's such a nice car, why not top off your review with a smiley instead of a sad face?

2002 Lexus LS 430 from North America

Summary:

Top o' the line

Faults:

I needed a new battery, which was replaced without question by the dealer.

The plastic cover that protects the bottom of the car from road hazards came off while I was on the highway. Lexus road service sent a tow truck, which took me to a Toyota dealer. The dealer temporarily repaired the problem and the dealer replaced the engine cover. This shouldn't have happened, but they were great about it.

General Comments:

This car has all of the bells and whistles and it's an incredible machine. I don't really use all of them - especially the back seat vibrator!

After this car, I will never be without a GPS navigation system.

In making the decision to lease this car, I compared it to the Mercedes S500 and the Lexus came out ahead.

The best car ever built. I stated after a review on a 2001 model (in the LS400 section) that it has all the safety features one could ever want. Fantastic. I will certainly buy one on a few years time when I have the money. Period.

Do you think 26,000 is a good deal for a 2001 ultra-luxury with 60000 miles. I'm thinking about buying it. I have been saving for a new one, but this seems like to good a deal to pass plus I can pay cash. I just worry about not having a warranty. I love Lexus, will never drive anything other. My old LS400 is just about to hit 100,000 so I'm selling her and getting a new one. Let me know.

Regarding the person asking if 26,000 is a good deal for a 2001 LS430 with 60K miles--I would say no. I just purchased a pristine 2002 LS430 with 66000 miles on it for $20,995 from a place called Orange County Auto Brokers. I found them on the internet. I'm sure you can find a similar type of little broker in your area. Just call Lexus with the VIN number before you buy... most Lexus's are service by Lexus. If it looks like it's been getting it's service regularly... you should be good to go...
