2001 Lincoln LS Sport 3.9L from North America

Faults:

1 Heated seat.

2 Crashed window lifts.

1 Front end ball joints.

General Comments:

I purchased an extended warranty and took care of maintenance since new. Runs like a top, moves like a cat.

Transmission is the weak point, just keep it filled and live with it.

Do the ball joints every 50000 miles or so.

There are no leaks under this car!

2001 Lincoln LS LX 3.9 V8 from North America

Summary:

Great concept but questionable execution

Faults:

Thermostat stuck.

Stripped lug nut.

Coil-On-Plug fouled by leaking valve gaskets or sloppy oil adding.

Suspect defective jet pump causing misfire above 3,000 RPM.

Blew out spark plug under heavy uphill acceleration (merging onto freeway).

General Comments:

Overall I love this car, after 5 years and 50,000 miles of Southern California commuting. It still runs hard, handles better than my 1995 Cobra Mustang, has the same horsepower and can take the family in comfort.

I've had none of the problems with window regulators, failed headlight seals, tie rods / ball joints, CD player or most of the other issues mentioned on this site.

I have had random weird instances of electronic beeps for no apparent reason. My most recent issue is the car misfiring at or above 3,000 RPM while stationary or while driving. A search of the Internet revealed several possibilities, all but two that I've discounted (vacuum leaks and jet pump malfunction). Being a former aircraft mechanic (OK - avionics technician and inspector), and having completed complete rebuilds and overhauls of cars - I feel comfortable that my previous service work was complete satisfactory, and is not suspect.

Anyway - I apologize for some of the maladies that people are experiencing, but I think the car is still fun. Perhaps I might opt for a nice G35 / G37 to replace it, as I understand they are quite reliable, and have a good dealer network.

Cheers!

The back of the middle console came off.

Replaced the CD player.

Car is at the shop now to replace the O2 sensors and the sway bar links (hope fully the check engine light goes off)

And my horn doesn't work!

General Comments:

This car as everyone else says looks so nice, but that is about it! I have put 74k on it, but all highway miles. The car stays in the dealer more that on the road.

If I get this car back and all my issues are not fixed, I'm going to have to take a loss and give it back to the bank. I cannot continue to pour money in to this bottomless pit.

2001 Lincoln LS from North America

Summary:

Don't judge this car by appearance!

Faults:

I've had to replace both of the rear window regulators. Recently I've had a gasket replaced that was leaking that nearly racked up a $1000 bill. A week after having that replaced one of the ignition coils went out. And now two months later the AC went out and the air bag light came on.

General Comments:

As far as comfort goes this car is sweet. I really thought that I was buying a nice, quality slightly used car; much to my surprise it is a piece of junk.

2001 Lincoln LS V6 from North America

Summary:

The structure is well built and it's sexy

Faults:

This is my 4th American car. I thought the LS would be different.

Since I had this car, I replaced two window regulators.

The ball joint replacement was on the house.

Now I driving down 395 south and my check engine light comes on. I said damn, not another failed American transmission. So I take the car for servicing. OK they run a scan for free and tell me it's not the tranny, thank GOD.

Now it turns out 3 of the coil packs need to be replaced. The dealer wanted $100 for each coil pack; Auto-zone has them for $50, now that's a deal.

Not too long ago the interior door handle broke inside the car driver side. The silver plastic handle.

I'm putting too much money in a car that supposed to be in competition with a BMW 5 series. I will never buy another American car; that's it. And I only have 50,232 miles on the car. Yes 50,232.

General Comments:

I think the LS is a good car overall. This is how companies stay in business. Ford will never build a car or truck that's perfect.
