2002 Lincoln LS 3.9L V8 from North America

Summary:

A little arm work, and you have a world class performer

Faults:

Well I am getting a new radio for it. I just don't like my old one.

General Comments:

Great 4 door sedan. It is almost reminds me of my 93 Davey Allison T-bird with the 5.0L under the hood.

This car is your typical ford. They will nickel and dime you to death. But hey my blood runs a deep color of Ford blue. I own a lot of them; 2 Fords, one Merc, and now a Lincoln.

The LS with the Jag V8 is different; real smooth power, almost like a baby 4.6L cobra engine. It love to rev; it comes alive after 2700 rpm. But I am not hard on this car.

Now power; it lacks a little for me. It has good power at first, but this thing needs to breath. Hint Hint, remember the Clevelands from back in the day. With the LS 3.9L, a good chip, cold air intake moved to a more dense spot to get that cold air, and a good more open dual exhaust will do wonders. Please use at least 89 octane in this car.

Remember to buckle your seat belts; it has safety features built into it.

I run mine with 94 octane sometimes with octane boosters, and in the 1/4 mile have been able to do 13.7's. Think 4000 lb car, simple bolt ons and 13.7's. Bang for the buck and I don't see any Lexus doing that. I don't even see a Impala SS from the factory doing that.

Added on:

Cold air intake

Better flowing exhaust with only 2 mufflers

Enkei RS6 with G-force sports

This car has real potential for it. Too bad they stopped making it.

Only possible thing Ford could have done was either the supercharged Jag engine or the DOHC 4.6L supercharged Cobra engine backed by the 5 speed. This should have been a special edition LS-X (extreme) capable of AMG killing 12's in the 1/4, and better handling than just about anything out there.

But I am happy with what I have.

I own a 2002 LS Sport model. I am glad to see your positive comments. Congratulations on your performance improvements and results! I like taking on the BMWs, Audis and Lexi of the world also! Fun isn't it!! My license plate is LXRYROD!

So many of the negative comments come from purchasers who have bought high mileage used cars, and then expect perfection without problems. IMHO a little preventive maintenance, common sense and expectations regarding the unique type of superb performance vehicle they have purchased, all need to be considered before most of these folks spew comments. If you have a problem, find a site, state your problem, ask for howto fixes and move on! Otherwise one just shows his lack of knowledge.

My only complaint is Lincoln had a 6 speed available with the base 6 cylinder engine, but never with the 3.9 V8! Some acquaintances of mine in Ford powertrain division said it wasn't strong enough to sit behind the 3.9. Can you imagine your toy with a 6 speed!?! Ditto on inserting the 4.6 DOHC into the LS. How fabulous would that be! I have daydreamed that thought more than once myself1! Problem is I have a 2004 Cobra as well, and I don't think the 4.6 would fit however. Too wide for the engine bay. Maybe a turbo instead Hey? I hope you continue to enjoy the best performance sedan Ford ever made. I know I will!

Summary:

I will never buy a Ford product again!!!

Faults:

I have an 02 Lincoln LS. I bought it about 2 years ago. It has been the worst money pit I have ever had in my life. I fell in love with the "look" and the speed of the car (I have a V8 engine).

My window regulator broke; huge expense. Now my car is in the shop because the front ball joint went bad after only 69,000 miles. I bought the car used from a Lexus dealer, with only 35,000 miles.

Now I know why they are in such a hurry to get rid of these cars. The AC vents are falling off.

The ball joint has to be replaced with the control arm, and Ford definitely tries to make a profit, because it is twice the cost for this repair as it would be for most other cars. I was told this by the shop who gave me a quote of 1,600 for the ball joint repair.

Please let me know if there will be a class action suite. I would love to sue Ford. 661-607-7600 Felicia.
