2004 Lincoln LS V8 3.9 V8 from North America

Summary:

LS = Luxury Sport

Faults:

Rear brakes squeak even after replacing the pads and rotors.

Headlights are hazed over and dull.

Passenger heated seats works for a minute, then turns off on it's own.

Steering wheel makes a sound when turning.

General Comments:

This is the LS V8 ultimate package, with the optional THX and nav system. Has rear heated seats and HIDs.

The car is superb, very comfortable, fast and super quiet, only downfall is the fuel economy on the 3.9L V8. On the highway it's very good, about 23 mpg, otherwise I average around 16 mpg.

Very nicely appointed interior with high quality panels and comfy seats. The THX sound system is incredible and has configuration for optimal sound quality based on the # of occupants in the car. Has speed sensitive steering that works great, although the steering wheel does make a noise when turning.

Car looks and drives great and has many improvements on the previous 2000+ models.

2004 Lincoln LS Luxury 3.0L V6 from North America

Summary:

Lincoln has earned a repeat customer; I would not hesitate to buy another LS tomorrow

Faults:

The car hasn't gone into service since I've had it.

General Comments:

Overall, I love the car and it has performed well on nearly every aspect.

The V6 delivers strong and smooth power with the transmission shifting smoothly through all five speeds.

At times, I find the seats can be just a bit too firm for longer trips.

Rear leg room is lacking. The problem is compounded on the drivers side when the seat auto reverses before the rear passenger has exited.

2004 Lincoln LS from North America

Faults:

I've been posting on auto sites attempting to find out if other Lincoln LS owners have had problems with the seat backs. Both seat backs fell down the same week. The Lincoln dealer where I leased the car has gone out of business and I was redirected to a Ford dealership. They refused warranty coverage on this 2004 with 18,000 miles as they claim the seat backs must have been improperly removed during an earlier repair by the dealer who went out of business. Customer service at the 800 Lincoln number supported their refusal. Neither are willing to consider it might be a part defect. I have seen a few postings that relate problems with the seat backs on earlier models of the LS. I'm attempting to discover how common the problem is. Thank you.

My seat back fell off after 3 years on the road. I have also had a lot of trouble with the transmission.

Dude! Wow, I thought I was the only one. My seat backs definitely broke off within a few months of me having the car, and it was pre-owned, so about 3 years old when I got it. I must've been a little more rough with it than the first owner. We couldn't really find cheap replacements, but because of the nature of the break (the little plastic snaps broke from the inside) my dad ended up fixing them with 2 screws & a little black paint, no one could ever tell that it happened.

I have an '04 LS (6 cyl) and both plastic moldings on the back of the front seats broke. I am the original owner and it happened early on in my ownership. The (Lincoln) dealership from whom I bought the car went out of business and a second dealership replaced them as warranty items. The service technician wrote them as being defective and so it cost me zilch.

I do have an oil smell inside the cabin from time to time as I come to a stop. It doesn't happen often, but enough to be very noticeable when it does. Does anyone else have this problem and if you've gotten it fixed, what causes it? I have no oil leakage that I can detect (ground where I park... on the inside of the engine compartment, etc.).

Man I owned a 2004 LS as well. The back of the seats fell off after 2 years, but the dealership fixed it for us, we luckily had a bumper to bumper warranty and have been there often. I am also having tranny problems and the dealership is not helping much with that. We been back 3 times and I plan on going back again cause the warranty is getting ready to run out.
