1993 Lincoln Mark VIII from North America

Summary:

Buy it cheap, put 2 grand in it, have a incredible car

Faults:

Air suspension at 98,000 miles.

Oil filter adapter gasket at 98,000 miles.

Broken drivers side door handle.

Fluid leaked from driver's side mirror, making the mirror blurry and difficult to see from.

Alternater at 75,000 miles.

Starter at 95,000 miles.

New plugs and wires at 75,000 miles.

General Comments:

The car is 14 years old and it still jerks my head back everytime I hit the gas.

When I first bought this car, I thought it would be a heavy luxurious car with adequate power. Boy was I wrong, it has a lot of power.

The interior has also held up very well, no cracks in the dash.

I had to replace the climate control with a unit from a 96, because the 93 to 95 models had thin buttons that cracked.

It still has the original stereo with a factory 10 disc changer that has worked flawless since I have owned the vehicle. It even plays my burned CD's.

1993 Lincoln Mark VIII from North America

Summary:

Wonderful

Faults:

Transmission went out at 77,000

Popped a spark plug right out of engine block at 162,000.

General Comments:

I bought this car with 32,000 in 1995. Pampered it and kept it up at all times. The car was still in excellent condition in May of 2006. Interior was near mint, except for those pesky buttons on the heater and air. The antenna still worked. I was so secure in this car that I was still taking 1600 mile trips in it until 2005 and 162,000. That is when I blew a spark plug out of the engine block.

Not expensive to fix. The mechanic said he had heard of them doing that, but had never seen one do it. Mine did!!! Something to do with the aluminum engine block. But the best and worst part of this review is that I had a really serious car crash (not my fault) and I walked away with only air bag damages. That iron tank was a life saver to me. It had 174,000 miles on it when it was totaled. The insurance company is taking me to the cleaners and only allowing me 2500 dollars for the car.. Now I am looking for another one and anything close to this is 5,000 to 7,000 dollars and even more. These cars will spoil you for Lincolns forever.

There is someting about these cars that really gets you attached to them. Maybe it's the power, or the luxury, or even the rarity, I don't know what it is, but I will keep my opal grey 93 forever no matter what it takes to keep it running.

I bought a 93 Mk VIII in an auction. It had 130,000km. I paid 1000.00 cnd. I changed the plugs and wires, fan belt, power steering fluid and oil change. Total cost 1100.00, grand total 2100.00.

Excellent car. It still needs a little work. Going to put a suspension conversion kit on it. It should last a very long time.

1993 Lincoln Mark VIII 4.6 V8 Automatic from North America

Summary:

Fast, Luxury, but at a cost

Faults:

Had to replace the alternator almost right after purchase.

Gone through a couple batteries because of bad cable connection.

Air suspension has gone out and been fixed more than once and is actually being worked on again. Air bags deflate after sitting for awhile, but most the time it will re- inflate its self when the car is started.

Alarm/computer system is out of whack it goes off if the lock button is pushed or sometimes for no reason. The computer tells me the "door is agar" when it really is not.

The heating and cooling system goes out every once in awhile actually the air didn't work almost all summer and I live in Arizona! usually it will go out if you go over a speed bump and jolt it or something.

The inside is still in good shape except for some wear on the steering wheel and the driver side seat.

General Comments:

The car is fast and I love it, I'm a young driver and get teased by peers that it looks like an "old persons" car... whatever that means, but once they try me I fly.

The seats are comfortable. However there is not a lot of room in the back and its hard to get in and out of.

Oil changes are an adventure, whoever designed that part wasn't thinking we actually need to get to that like every month or two. Luckliy I am a girl and have small hands so most the time its easier for me to get to it.

The cars paint looks great for a ten year old car.

This is my first car and I've been having issues with it and thinking of getting rid of it. Which is a shame, but because of my age it is hard to put like 400 dollars into my car on a regular basis cause of problems with it. But it's a great luxury car I am lucky to have it, but if someone came up to me an offered me a decent price I would let it go.

On the air going on and off, check the plug in connection on the A/C fan motor located behind the glove box. It is prone to get loose or corrode, and not make a good connection. I had the same problem, and that is what it was.
