2014 Lincoln MKS Base 3.7L V6 from North America
Summary:
Best car I've ever owned
Faults:
Only a few issues in the 5 years I've owned it.
Front engine cover gasket replaced @ 48,000 miles warranty covered.
Windshield wiper motor replaced twice, once @ 50,000 miles and again around 85,000 miles. Both covered under warranty. Had a drainage issue but cleared the leaves and twigs out and issue fixed. Other than that, just basic maintenance
General Comments:
Love this car and I hate that Lincoln doesn't make it anymore.
The car has a silky smooth ride and gas mileage is good. Averaged 25 mpg on a recent road trip (approx. 700 miles round trip).
Replaced tires at 75,000 miles and rear brakes at 80,000 miles. Front brakes & tune up needed soon as it's approaching 100k.
Will keep driving until the wheels fall off.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Wouldn’t think coolant mixing with oil would be that big of a deal to be honest. The oil would be changed regularly, so the coolant wouldn’t end up diluting it too much. The coolant also doesn’t vaporize easily (like water) and also has similar lubricating power like oil. I don’t think that would be a significant factor in this overall issue.

Coolant in the engine is a very big deal. Coolant has no lubricating ability when it comes to the heat and friction to which engine bearings are subjected, and degrades the existing oil. This results in scored bearings and cylinder walls, clogged oil passages, and engine failure, probably by a thrown rod from a spun bearing. I suppose if you had a beater that wasn’t worth fixing, you might get away with just changing the oil with a smaller leak like a blown head gasket, but water pumps leak a lot of water when the seal wears, too much to ignore. The need is immediate.

Congrats on your purchase :)
FYI - be aware - the engine has issues with the water pump that can be fatal to the engine, which is unfortunate on an otherwise excellent engine in a nice vehicle.

"Basically, any Ford or Lincoln, even Mazda, with Duratech 3.5/3.7L engines, including Ecoboost 3.5 are potentially effected. The water pump is mounted inside the oil lubricated timing chain cover/housing. It’s gear acts as an idler pulley for the camshaft timing chain, its shaft turning the water pump impellor. If the water pump bearing or seal fails, it will leak coolant into the oil. Therefore, you would notice a loss of coolant which might subsequently lead to overheating, but you would also be mixing coolant with oil. This would be noticeable on the oil dipstick as “milky oil” and possibly on underside of oil fill cap when removed. Coolant in oil can lead to failure of engine bearings, cylinder wall scoring and engine failure. Therefore, any indication of the symptoms mentioned should be immediately investigated. Labor hours to replace water pump is like 20 to 30 and not a DIY project for most people. Check YouTube for some good videos of this repair. Scary! I own 3 vehicles with this series of engines: Flex, Taurus and Mazda6. As much as I like these cars, I’m now seriously worried about the problem occurring."
