1992 Lincoln Town Car 8 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Smooth and quiet lots of power

Faults:

Just now at 170,000 miles the check engine light comes on sometimes. I had to replace the motor for the "suspension". Was able to get if from a salvage place, so it only cost $100.00.

In the Winter here in Minnesota, the suspension light comes on a lot. It is not able to function correctly in -20 below weather and stays in the "UP" position until the weather warms up some. Does not effect the drive of the car though.

General Comments:

I have totally enjoyed this car. It is smooth. Like sitting in a recliner in your living room! So quiet... you need to use your cruise control as it cruises best at 70 and up! No trouble with transmission. Very smooth cannot hear it shifting. My husband can not hear if the car has started or not it runs so quiet. I have had to fix the brake pads once since I have had it. The Interior is still like new. I had to repaint the upper half of the car. It had "sun scorch" on the hood and trunk from not being stored in garage.

1992 Lincoln Town Car Executive 4.6 SOHC V-8 from North America

Summary:

An excellent bargain luxury car

Faults:

The heater door actuator(?) was replaced; only the A/C was operational, no heat.

It could maybe use a set of front brake pads, and maybe ball joints or something in the front end within the next 10,000 miles. I have heard that these cars didn't have accessible wheel bearings after the 1991 model year, and I suspect whatever equivalent Lincoln concoction for the front end worries...

General Comments:

I really wanted a Continental, but their repair history for the 1988-1994 is positively SCARY, so I chose the Town Car based on many, many favorable comments I recieved from other owners.

The Town Car doesn't hold its resale value particularly well, which made it very easy to get a great deal on one in near perfect condition.
