2004 Mazda 6 Wagon 3.0 from North America
Summary:
It is a very nice package, and well worth the extra cash over the dime-a-dozen sedan
Faults:
It eats through brakes (4 disks), but my wife drives it mostly. Otherwise, very good.
General Comments:
A fantastic design, and it still looks good as a 6 year old model. It has been perfectly reliable except for the brakes going too fast. Fuel efficiency is fair, and this moves to up to good when you consider it requires 87 octane only. It has about the same power numbers as an Audi 3.0 that requires 92+ octane and costs far more.
It handles very well (more predictable than my Acura CL-S) and it brakes well too. The steering is speed-sensitive, but is too light and detached from the driver (made for lazy drivers perhaps). The engine comes into its own at 3500 rpm, and it revs nicely from there. But it is pretty grumpy moving from zero with the automatic - you have to wake it up to get it moving.
No need for a minivan or a hatch with a rack!
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I would disagree with the statement that Mazdas don't last. I'm sorry the 6 has been your impression of the brand. I've had an RX7, a Protege, driven a Mazda5 for a time, and have a Mazda6. The 6 is by far the least durable, and the most finicky about everything. Mazda however does have a history of making solid cars, such as the Protege I had, which never left me stranded.
