1994 Mazda 626 LX from North America

Summary:

Horrible not worth the money

Faults:

I bought the car from a dealer at 63000 miles everything was fine. last month at 75000 miles my transmission went out. The problem started by the o/d light flashing on and off. It would not turn off and the next day it started slipping bad. It cost me about 2,000 thousand dollars to get it fixed. I was very upset because it only had 75000 miles on it. This was my first car I bought when I was 17 and my biggest mistake was buying this car and I will never purchase another Masda in my life.

General Comments:

Around 70,000 miles my head lights had problems. They would not turn on. Apparently it was a known problem with this car and I am upset there wasn't a recall on my car and all the problems I got from my 1994 Masda 626.

1994 Mazda 626 Cronos LX from North America

Summary:

Good car with quirks

Faults:

The hold switch is causing major problems (sticking, hard kickdowns, always flashing). Read a review wherein a fella had read that rather than replacing the tranny, a woman had replaced a part for a mere fraction of the cost of replacing the tranny. Help... single mom who cannot afford this with her only vehicle. Anyone know what I can do???

1994 Mazda 626 ES V6 from North America

Summary:

A waste of your money

Faults:

I bought this car with only 112,000miles and since then I came to find out.

I have a leak in the Rear Main Seal.

My transmission started to go at 113.000 miles and now is being replaced at 114,000 miles.

My transmission Fluid was real dirty supposedly so then I got it changed and that is when the transmission started to give out.

General Comments:

The car is very comfortable.

I have had two other cars another Mazda what a mistake and a dodge and this car I would have to say is the best on gas.

I put so much money into this car already and I am only 17 I tried to find a reliable car until November and it is taking me for broke.

1994 Mazda 626 GLX wagon from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Great workhorse, and reasonably comfortable

Faults:

Outer CV joint boots split

Fuel pump leaking oil

Central locking not working correctly

Rear wiper wouldn't stop.

General Comments:

Not a car that would light your fire, but an amazingly reliable workhorse, with few problems over the 126,000km we've run it.

1994 Mazda 626 Chronos 2.5 V6 from North America

Summary:

Good for repairs, not driving

Faults:

Mazda 626 Chronos 2.5L 6 cyl.

Transmission needed complete overhaul twice ($3000), Complete Engine Rebuild from Mazda ($2600), Power Steering Pump & Rack ($1700), Oxygen Sensors, needs a new Catalytic converter, and so on... plus so many others... what a money pit. Never, never again will I purchase a Mazda. It has been in the shop every three months for major repairs. No help from Mazda or their dealerships, also no feedback on their website. After many, many completes about the 626 transmissions absolutely nothing done by Mazda and no recalls... funny how this sorta thing slips by?

General Comments:

Nice Style

Poor on repairs

Poor on Dealer initiative for recall and service problems.

Good value if you're a mechanic.

Summary:

Never again, better to buy a new one

Faults:

Muffler is a disaster, Transmission jumps, everything is wrong with it and needs to be fixed.

General Comments:

Looks good from the outside, but the whole body needs to really be fixed wasted around $800, and I bought it for $1,900.

1994 Mazda 626 GL 2.2 Lt Unleaded from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Has been reliable up to now, but the Transmission problem has been it's downfall; no more Mazda's

Faults:

The Hold Button Light began blinking at about 130,000km. The transmission would have to be reved to jump out of 1st into 3rd.

General Comments:

It has taken me a year to track down the problem. Initially the hold button flash would disappear if I turned the engine off and started again. I could drive off; but the problem was so intermittent that mechanics couldn't find a fault. It wasn't the ECU as we trialled a replacement and it made no difference.

In the end, it was diagnosed as the transmission and is currently being reconditioned. The Transmission Mechanic strongly recommended that, as part of the rebuild, we include an external bypass cooler ($AUD400) because keeping the transmission cooler is very important. The mechanic recommends the by-pass cooler for new cars as a priority

I'll let you know how it goes, but after reading the other comments, I think I'll be getting rid of the Mazda. I don't know why people replace a transmission four times and not ditch it altogether.
