1995 Mazda 626 LX 2.5 from North America

Summary:

This is the worst vehicle I've ever owned.

Faults:

Transmission failure @ 55,000 miles. Rebuilt failure @ 78,000.

General Comments:

Mazda is very well aware of the problems with their 626's. I think everyone that still owns one, should get together to do a statewide class action suit against them for failure to correct the problem.

These cars are junk, ford should be ashamed, for not making it right with these bad transmissions. I will never buy a mazda or ford again.

1995 Mazda 626 LX 2 litre from North America

Summary:

Very good up to this point

Faults:

In last 2 months the car would cut out while traveling at low speed or coming to a stop. When put into park, it would start straight away.

I'm living in Ireland now, but the car was purchased in Florida. Mechanics here cannot find out what is causing this problem. Has anybody got any advice?

The car may go for up-to 7 days without cutting out, but may also cut out a few times in 1 day.

Thankful for any help. Galway, Ireland.

It could also be your filter of your fuel or your pump going bad.

1995 Mazda 626 from North America

Summary:

Excellent car at high mileage

Faults:

Engine computer went out around 98,000 miles or so. We fixed it, although expensive. No further problems.

General Comments:

My Mazda is still running very well, I have traveled with it to Phoenix and California. It still purrs like a kitten. It has no problem with the transmission. I am in college and rely on this car and it gets me where I need to go. It truly is a great car.

1995 Mazda 626 LX 2.0L from North America

1995 Mazda 626 LX 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Compared to my Geo, my 626 is like a Lexus.

Faults:

Check engine light is currently on (and has been since I purchased it).

Overheats and dies in idle - started at 68000 miles.

"Chokes" at 4000 RPM - started at 70000 miles.

General Comments:

I purchased this car in March 2004 from a salvage auction for $550. I had to replace left front fender, hood, left headlight, windshield, and struts. Also had to straighten the frame and radiator support. Painted the car and added a few minor things (IE emblems, a hubcap, vinyl body graphics) and the total vehicle price was $1300.

After alignment and full service, my 626 runs great and handles well. Car was taken care of by it's previous owner and interior is still in perfect shape.

A few things need replaced, O2 sensor and fuel filter (I hope those are my problems) and I should be back up and running in no time.

Not all automatic 626's are lemons, only those who aren't driven "nicely".

I have a well cared for 626 LX manual and I agree with you. No major problems as of May 2005.

1995 Mazda 626 LX 1.6 from North America

Faults:

Flashing o/d light, had to get new transmission.

General Comments:

After a year of having my Mazda 626 the o/d light kept flashing and shifting gears real hard. It cost me $2,300.00 to get the transmission fixed. Now it is happening again, a year later! Never to buy a Mazda 626 again!

I know what you mean, my car does the same thing!! Extremely annoying. Like when you stop and start again, it jerks you out of first. But I have found that if you restart it before you start moving again, it goes away, but if you are on the highway it would be sure to return. It is just a temporary fix though. since it goes away when you restart it, I believe that it is more of an electrical problem somewhere and not the transmission itself.

I agree, I would NEVER own another 626 again!!!
