1993 Mazda MX3 Autozam 1.5 DOHC fuel injection from Malaysia

Summary:

Affordable beauty prior to your Porsche

Faults:

Got it used and straightaway changed the timing belt, re-aligned and balanced the wheels.

Wheels bearing needed to be changed, brake pads as well.

Sometimes won't start at 'P'.

Air con when switched on emits a rapid clicking sound when the RPM is low. No complaints about the coolness though.

General Comments:

Power and pick-up sluggish at best. Body parts are impossible to find, this car being imported reconditioned from Japan. Only about 5 are running here.

Engine parts are not a problem. Other Mazda and Ford model parts work just fine.

Comfort is compromised due to racing seats and 16" rims. Handles superbly in return.

1993 Mazda MX3 1.5 injection from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A inexpensive coupe with great looks and excellent reliability, I highly recommend them!

Faults:

C.V. joints wore out and were replaced by the dealer.

Front coil springs made a noise when the steering was turned (apparently grease was enough to fix this).

General Comments:

The car handles beautifully.

Has a lovely driving position.

On the negative side, if you are tall you may need to dislocate a few joints to get in the door, particularly if someone else parks beside you. I suppose most two doors are like this but in the MX3 the low seats make it worse.

Once you have negotiated the door, there is loads of leg and head room in the front at least.

The boot door is a bit heavy to lift also, which is a bit annoying.

The gear change is very nice and overall, despite a few glitches, I love the car.

If you in the Rep. of Ireland however, beware of the insurance costs.

1993 Mazda MX3 3D 1.6 from North America

Summary:

An affordable and reliable little sports car!

Faults:

Drivers side key hole damaged - not sure if due to vandalism or too much use.

The car feels like it is going to die out sometimes when it is stopped.

General Comments:

I really like this car, it's cute and sporty.. Get a lot of looks in it, great car - goes fast enough for me!

It would be perfect if it were my old '86 Celica under the hood, had to sell that because it was out dated :(

1993 Mazda MX3 GS Special Edition 1.8 V-6 DOHC from North America

Summary:

High performance sleeper :)

Faults:

Nothing that I haven't caused by racing it (clutch died after running 16 flat, probably due to the 7800 RPM speed shifts).

General Comments:

I love this car! Spectacular performance! Surprised many a V-8 Mustang owner with its high RPM power, and several VTEC Honda owners with its low RPM grunt.

I now have a ACT stage II clutch, which makes it even more fun to drive!

You can go to FX Designs, and get a body kit and a spoiler for your MX3. They have a few different body kits you can get, and it's at an alright price. www.fxdesigns.com.

As for your spoiler, try searching eBay first. FX does have them, but they're really expensive.

Hope that helped. Kevin.

1993 Mazda MX3 AZ3 1.5 DOHC 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Worth every penny, but shop around!!! (in Ireland anyway)

Faults:

Front fog lamps have broken twice, due to bad Irish roads!!

General Comments:

Very nippy for a 1.5.

Heavy fuel consumption!!

Very bad urban return.

Good for tax and insurance, considering the performance.

Not very good max speed or "flat out", it is a Jap so it is restricted, but 0-60 is........... fun.
