2000 Mazda MX5 1.8i from UK and Ireland
Summary:
Great fun to drive and lovely to look at
Faults:
Nothing.
General Comments:
I love the MX5. The handling is superb and it looks wonderful. Great acceleration from stopped (traffic lights, etc) which is just what you need for getting away from lorries, young lads in Ford Escorts, etc.
With the new model they have improved the suspension, and therefore the comfort, the noise and just about everything else.
This is my 3rd MX5 - which I think says it all!
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Same engine? I think not.
Ford Escort Zetec 1.8 = 115 HP vs Mazda 1.8 = 140 HP + Mazda slightly lower kerbweight. Work it out for yourself :)
After having had 2 MX5's and plenty of more exotic & expensive machinery before & after, the MX5 = biggest smile per £ value you can get.

The Mazda does not share an engine with Ford!!! Don't insult MAZDA with silly comments like that! Mazda are an excellent company with fantastic engines, superb build quality... Ford are just run of the mill cheap run-abouts!

Actually, Mazda have shared a number of engines with Ford. The laser here in australia shares the engine with the Astina/Protege. The new focus shares it's engine with the Mazda 3 also if I'm not mistaken. The 626 and Telstar also shared engines.
Ford actually owns the majority of Mazda.

Nothing against the Miata, but really, I must wonder who in a Ford escort is racing people? But even if they were, would you have that big an advantage in power at least? They use the exact same motor, after all.
