1994 Mazda MX6 LS 2.5 DOHC from North America

Summary:

Body of a princess, heart of a warrior

Faults:

After I replaced the motor. Nothing major has gone wrong so far. Current motor has 195,000 km on it.

Simple stuff that I can fix in the driveway.

Rust seems to accumulate on the bottom of the doors, and along the underbody below the doors. But those are the only places I've found rust.

Alternator died, but I blame Mitsubishi for making crappy parts.

General Comments:

Treat this car with love, and it will last you a long time.

Motor will easily last until 300,000 km.

The car just makes you very happy.

I feel like I was born to drive this car, and there are very few cars that would make you feel that way.

Most comfortable front seats ever.

About as fuel efficient as any 4 cylinder I have driven. Even Hondas.

1994 Mazda MX6 LS from North America

Summary:

Like a good woman, will show you love if you take care of her.

Faults:

- CV boots (seems like a common problem)

- thermostat.

- brakes/rotors/calipers.

- my passenger side window exploded randomly (I found out the power window motor was screwed, so I went to a scrapyard and bought a whole new DOOR for $100 - best bargain ever!)

General Comments:

I just want to add my 2 cents, seeing as how I came to this site 3 years ago right before I bought my mx-6, and seeing a couple negative reviews, decided to take the risk anyways!

I've heard a lot about the distributor cap and the automatic transmission in general, but as soon as mine started shifting hard out of first gear (2 months after I bought it), my half-assed solution was to fill it with lucas transmission fix every 6-7 weeks, transmission flush every 5-6 months, and the shifting has remained smooth as butter since.

I have to state (besides the transmission thing) that I was an extremely neglectful owner, and this is not a civic hatchback... these cars need love and care. I drive TONS more than average, yet I changed the oil every 7-8,000km (!), use regular gas, and generally just turn my car on and go... preventative maintenance is KEY with this car. Take care of it, monitor fluids/small problems, and you will not have any issues whatsoever.

Hell, I bought it for $2,000 with 180,000km...3 years later I hit 285,000km, and what did I spend on maintenance, $1,000 total? Not too shabby in my opinion.

1994 Mazda MX6 LS 2.5L from North America

Summary:

Great cheap sports car... drives itself

Faults:

Well, nothing serious has gone wrong with this car, and I have to admit I am fairly hard on it... but I have had a bunch of smaller issues.

1) Trunk latch and key entry both don't work, so I have to go through my backseat to get into the trunk

2) Driver window control (controls passenger window) button broke, but mechanics still work; just the button is broken.

3) Sun roof only cracks up... not all the way back

4) Some of the roof carpeting is peeling and sagging around the edges.. due to water?

General Comments:

I really do like this car. I am a faster driver, and this car has the pick up and maintains good speed. I find this car wants to run at around 130-140 kph, and find it is always creeping up to this speed. It handles very well at high speeds, and does drift, but in a controlled manner.

The front seats are very comfortable, but being 6"4', the back seats are nearly impossible to sit in.

Pretty good on gas, and there is a very small oil leak in the engine somewhere (don't have to worry about it at all, but there is often small amounts of oil on the engine if you lift the hood), but I hear it is always going to happen after having a car that is running on 14 years of age...

Also I've never had to fix or replace, but I've heard some of the parts on that car would be a huge pain to replace; the starter, alternator... and you may even need to take the engine out to replace them. I'm not sure, but I've just been told.

Also drove 15 hours straight with a U-haul trailer packed right to the max when I moved through the mountains of B.C. and not once did this car shudder or stress, hauling a heavy load up the mountain roads.

All in all, I have driven this car already 45,000+ KM, and all I've had to replace are the headlights, and that is it. I WOULD recommend this car to other buyers.
