That's why I bought 1996 model after 1993.

1996 Mazda MX6 Base 2.0 - 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

A wonderful vehicle to drive and own

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong yet.

General Comments:

This car is just plain fun to drive. It handles amazingly well and it has a surprising amount of power.

It's very simple to shift and it handles well at all speeds I have driven it.

The MX6 is a sophisticated vehicle yet it offers a very sporty look. Not many cars on the road look similar.

So far I've had no problems. I'm sure the 6 cylinder version would be even more fun to drive, but I'm pretty happy with mine.

1996 Mazda MX6 LS 2.5L V6 from North America

Summary:

A sophisticated, enthusiast's dream

Faults:

CV boots - repaired under extended warranty.

General Comments:

Drop dead gorgeous styling, near perfect ergonomics, superb handling, and the most wonderful V6 going. This engine is a soulful, rev-happy sweetheart that pulls to its 7000 rpm redline (and beyond) so willingly it's hard to keep the revs down. It's as smooth at high rpms as any I've driven and has reserves of power at the top that are surprising.

Its reliability is the best I've experienced in any car.

Because of its inherent goodness I've begun a series of major modifications that should at least double the horsepower and give it handling to match. I plan on keeping the car indefinitely.

There is no way you will be able to double the horsepower in the mx6. Even a supercharger or turbo will only put out about 90 additional HP. Your car has 164 stock... it will never be able to make 328hp.

Klze swap + forged interne + turbo + injector + fuel pump + CAI + exhaust 3" + boost controler + some other think and you'll have the double of power :D.

There are 300+ hp KL03's out there. I happen to own one. If you frequent mx6.com or probetalk.com (Probes share our platform) you will learn what it takes to create one. You will have to go the forced induction route with all new internals though; it's more money than it's worth. In the end you are still stuck with FWD and very little reliability. Save your money and buy a new car more suitable for high HP mods.

1996 Mazda MX6 GS V6 from North America

1996 Mazda MX6 GT 2.5 V6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Only niggles have been with the radio/cassette (which is basic) and the dealer fitted Mazda alarm (which has a tendency to go off if sunny or windy).

General Comments:

It's the best car I have had. Performance is superb, it runs sweetly and is cheap to service (£148 for my 27,000 mile service). It's a shame that Mazda have stopped producing it for the UK.
