2004 Mazda RX8 from North America

Summary:

The best of all worlds, period

Faults:

It's been flawless, even to my surprise. My last cars were a Honda and a Toyota, so I had pretty high standards, but the RX-8 has been completely perfect for two years. Absolutely nothing has gone wrong, not even a warning light. As a first time Mazda owner, I'm very impressed.

General Comments:

The RX-8 is sporty, reliable, practical, and an all around blast to drive. One reviewer wrote that this was the best looking car to ever come out of Japan, and I agree. It's three years old and I still get comments all the time. A neighbor of mine thought it was a Maserati. The amount of stuff the RX-8 can carry still amazes me, and the interior is spot on perfect (especially with leather--the cloth seats in the early ones seem very cheap, so go for the Grand Touring package). I've loved every minute of owning this car. If they make the hydogen powered conversion available to the US, I'll drive it forever.

2004 Mazda RX8 GT 1.3 Rotary from North America

Summary:

A wonderful concept with very poor execution

Faults:

Engine failed at 19,000 miles and was replaced by Mazda. 8,000 miles on new engine and I'm starting to have issues with the new motor. I'm giving up.

General Comments:

Are any RX 8 owners considering a class action suit to get out of your car? Please respond on this web page if you are aware of any actions in progress.

Engine is a loser and doesn't last. I have spoken to several owners who have tried to return the cars to the dealers or enact the Lemon Laws.

My 2005 RX8 (28k) dies when I am in drive with the air condition on in 90 degree or higher temperature weather (Texas).

It's been in the shop twice and it died again twice today at a stop sign. I am bringing it in tomorrow and I am not paying the tax on the rental this time!

Contact me for class action list...studentlaw2006@hotmail.com (I am not a lawyer)...maybe together we can build a case.. this is not right.. Mazda needs to take ownership.

Marcia.

2004 Mazda RX8 from North America

Summary:

Too many problems

Faults:

Wow!! I have had more problems with my RX8 than I have time to list. From the high number of recalls, to the oil leaks to the "no starts". I have had them all. Just last week Mazda had to replace the engine. The car has been to the shop multiple times for what they call "no starts". Each time they would have to de-flood the engine. I was told that I could not drive the car a short distance. For example, I could not back out of the garage and park the car in the yard. If so, I can promise you that I would be calling a tow truck. Well, this last time it happened the Mazda dealer called and said that I needed a new engine. I was like okay- for what now I thought? It seems that all this time the engine had what they called low compression!! Thank goodness that I had purchased the extended warranty. Would you believe that they then needed copies of ALL receipts for oil changes to make sure that it was not because of a lack of maintenance. You must be kidding me right!! I do not keep copies of that kind of thing especially when we would do it ourselves. After a lot of persistence on MY part they replaced the motor. I will definiley keep receipts now. It is going back to the shop tomorrow because there is smoke coming out from under the hood!! The same oil leak it had when they fixed it last week and replaced the motor. Go figure.

General Comments:

The car looks great and I love to drive it when it runs correctly!! I get compliments on it everywhere I go.

Well about them wanting receipts to show you actually did preform maintenance on the car, you would find that with ANY dealership that is repairing something under warranty.

That's why they created the Owner's Manual. Your getting a rotary engine not a piston engine. Moving the car short distances in cold weather without properly warming up your car your going to flood it. De-flooding it isn't that hard to do by yourself with a simple search of the internet.
