2003 Mercedes-Benz SLK 200 Tiptronic 2.0 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Few cars to match the style and performance of this gem from M-B

Faults:

Nearside ball joint shows signs of premature wear. This was also a problem on my previous SLK.

Niggly electrical problems (interior lighting in both cars).

Interior vinyl prone to scratching/wear.

General Comments:

Positive:

Compared to the 2nd generation A-Class, you can really put the SLK through its paces (superb roadholding and cornering). Having high performance tyres is a must.

Terrific folding roof!

Very comfortable, although view out of the rear is a little limited when reversing.

Boot is a reasonable size - I've even managed to get small frame racing bike into it.

Negative:

Having to deal with an indifferent and at times incompetent dealership

2003 Mercedes-Benz SLK SLK32 AMG 3.2 from North America

Summary:

A high performance bargain

Faults:

Top needs adjusting as warning light comes on occasionally. The light goes out when I hit the close button.

General Comments:

I wish that driver side memory seat was an option.

But this car is hilariously quick: 0-60 in 4.5, quarter mile in 13.0 (the same as a Lamborghini Gallardo)!

Have your dealer replace the offending top latch sensor. A cheap fix for your problem. Good luck with your car.
