1990 Mercury Cougar LS 3.8L V6 from North America
Summary:
A comfortable, nice car to drive, but too costly to maintain
Faults:
The head gasket blew at 230,000 km. I decided to replace the entire engine instead of monkey around with the cylinder heads. The re-manufactured engine I am installing should finally make the car run correctly for once.
The transmission was cooked at 200,000km which I have replaced also with a re-manufactured one.
General Comments:
The car is nice to drive (when it runs) and is very roomy and comfortable. I have always owned Fords and am inclined to continue buying Fords, however my company vehicle is a Chevy and I have not had any problems with it. Probably will try Chevy next time.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

I just bought a 1990 cougar LS, 3.8 v6, 4sp automatic with 81000 miles on it and she runs like the wind! Very smooth engine with a little shifting problem at low speed from 1st to 2nd gear.
Other than that I love my cougar. Highway driving is Caddy like in overdrive and street stop and go is fast enough not to get me stopped by the police, but enough to get me there fast.
