1992 Mercury Grand Marquis LS 4.6L V8 from North America

Summary:

Good affordable family sedan

Faults:

I have just bought this car and already things have gone wrong with it. The check engine light comes on when you are driving long distances and then proceeds to buck. The front seal in the transmission is leaking and the transmission its self shifts roughly into overdrive. Other than that we love it. I always told my self I would never drive a Ford, but here I am driving one. I would recommend this car to others interested in purchasing one. The 4.6l V8 engine in smooth and fairly powerful. This is the same engine used in police cars, so they must be reliable. Fuel mileage is actually not too bad for a big car. I like Dodge better, but they or chevy no longer make big family cars like ford does.

Thanks for reading.

Hi To all!

I just purchased a 1993 Grand Marquis with 60,000 miles on it and is doing all the mentioned symptoms, (check engine light when at high speeds, Goes to Overdrive without notice, Bucks and vibrates every now and then)

Has anybody found the causes of these glitches?

The engine and transmission are in perfect condition and I think it may be a (flow, pressure or oxygen) sensor problem, but before I go and spend a fortune changing all the sensors at random, I would like to have some light on the issue, or have an idea of what to look for.

Other than that, I just plain love the big ride and comfort that 4000 pounds of steel provides on the open roads.

Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

1992 Mercury Grand Marquis GS 4.6L V-8 from Russia

Summary:

I can't say enough! One mighty tough super car!!!

Faults:

Front suspension eventually gave in due to 20,000 miles of severe Russian roads. The engine consumed oil, and delivered poor fuel economy.

General Comments:

This is one TOUGH CAR!!! It was exported from warm Southern California to cold Ekaterinburg, Russia in 1997. At that time the car had 100,000 miles on it. I visited during Summer of 1999 and casually drove the car. It really amazed me, this 2-ton vehicle took 20,000 miles of battle field-like road conditions, seasons on sub-zero cold and salted road surfaces, several drivers and when it came to my turn it was RUNNING FINE! Unfortunately the abused front suspension had to be replaced with an enforced one, hey what do you expect from a heavy car that drove on craters for almost 3 years? It really proves the value of large 8 cylinder vehicles. THE ONLY GOOD AMERICAN CAR THAT I'VE SEEN!!!

Second Grand Marquis, this is the best American made big car made. For the money it is the same as a Lincoln Town Car, probably ten thousand dollars less. Same engine and chassis, a little smaller, but the ride is similar.

My '92 is by far the best vehicle I've ever owned! With 148,000 miles, it runs great (but uses a little oil) and still gets 26 MPG! The paint quality is terrible, but so were all the other makes at that time.
