1995 Mercury Sable GS 3.0 V6 from North America

Summary:

An overall great car

Faults:

At 104000 miles, two things went wrong. First the radiator cracked, then the belt tensioner cracked. It cost me over $900 to fix.

Two months ago, the rubber lining around the door came down. I have yet to get it fixed. I have to push it up every now and then.

Last week, one of the air conditioner vent slats broke. It prevents me from directing the airflow where I want it to go.

General Comments:

Overall, the 1995 Mercury Sable is a fantastic car. It has performed very well and has only had one major problem.

1995 Mercury Sable LX 3.3 from North America

Summary:

Nice ride when it doesn't overheat and you don't have lots of speed traps

Faults:

Numerous Recalls. Dealer is pretty quick about getting you in and out on the repairs.

We have had to replace the speedometer cable three times now. They just keep going bad. The speedometer cable makes a loud clicking noise when it goes bad. You can hear it catch, then the needle tops out on the speed. Very difficult to tell how fast you are actually traveling because the needle keeps bobbing up and down.

The car will stall out in the summer if the air conditioner is on and you have less than half a tank of gas. It will not start until the engine cools down. Mercury dealer says there is nothing wrong, but I have read other reviews of the 95 Sable who have similar experiences.

Remote Gas Door release latch is bent and will not release the door. I have to use a key to pry open the door when getting gas.

General Comments:

In general, this is not a bad car, but we have had many problems during the summer months. We are located in the Midwest with pretty hot summers.

Ahhh haaa!! I read this and smiled... about the stalling with AC problem!!! I had the exact same problem and went to the dealer who told me there was nothing wrong... Well I can tell you... the problem you are having is vapor lock in the fuel pump... Dealer replaced it at no charge... Make them fix this as it is a technical problem... I love my sable, but watch out for your motor mounts... both of mine have broken causing expensive repairs!

1995 Mercury Sable GS V-6 from North America

Summary:

Sleek but not so quick

Faults:

Engine made a disturbing noise and had it fixed for 1600 dollars.

Center visor mirror fell from the windshield.

Right side of the back mirror fell out.

Rear left door won't open.

Transmission problem, had it replaced.

When the air conditioning or heater is turned on, the vehicle struggles to move.

Front right side window opens with squeaks and does not open as quickly as the front left one.

The lighter (for cigarettes) is broken.

General Comments:

Definitely a better looking car than the Ford Taurus and 1995 Camry.

It is extremely powerless and struggles to go up hills and with the air conditioner on, the car struggles to go up a hill even more.

However, the car is very roomy inside, most ergonomics are made way too cheap for its price.

Its ride is relatively smooth and quiet.

Overally, I would consider the new 2001 Mercury Sable, but never again the 1992~1995, it had way too many problems and it seems like it needs a new transmission again.

1995 Mercury Sable GS Wagon 3.0L V6 from North America

Faults:

Remote control gas door- [plastic] latch broke and now door won't fully close. Power steering pump & rack and pinion are both going out slowly. Evident at 50K miles, the car now has 72K.

General Comments:

While the car hasn't broken down at all, the construction is very cheap both in and out, and the interior design needs refinement; plastic components rattle and are very prone to breaking, outside [factory] paint is easily scratched. Over normal sized bumps, the car rattles like a go cart...

However, it's VERY practical, spacious, comfortable, and has a good freeway ride.
