2001 Mercury Sable LS Premier from North America
Summary:
One of the most reliable cars I've owned
Faults:
Two days after leaving the dealership lot, the wipers stopped working. I thought I might have gotten a bad deal. But this was a recall item, and the dealer fixed it at no cost.
The brake pedal switch and seat belt also had been recall items that the dealers fixed.
Other than that, I have had no mechanical problems at all. I do keep up with regular service.
The door panels on the interior are peeling and coming loose. This is due to the fact that the car gets parked in direct sunlight in dusty parking lots for long periods. I tried using a car cover, but that was stolen.
I did have a vibration for a while, but that was my own fault for purchasing "bargain" tires. I now have good tires and no more vibrations.
I had to spend 68 dollars to find out the gas cap was loose and causing the engine oil light to come on.
General Comments:
I am consistently getting at least 26 mpg. I drive mostly highway between Alabama and Louisiana. Very comfortable ride.
The car shifts smoothly, and the cruise control is great.
Service has been good and bad, depending on the dealership I went to.
I installed a trailer hitch, and use it to haul a cargo trailer from time to time. I've hauled a washer/drier, living room furniture, lawn mower etc. It is a lot cheaper than a truck, and the trailers rent for 15/day.
I did break the tail light unhooking the trailer. Dealers wanted $138 plus labor for a new taillight. I got one at a salvage yard for $15, and it only took a few minutes to change out.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

The "Early Gas Recurculation valve"? What about the Late one, did that check out OK?
