1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST 2.0 turbo from North America

Summary:

4g63t being the fastest 4 cylinder

Faults:

This car was in an accident before I got it. So that's not exactly something that would just go wrong, but here is what has gone wrong so far:

Door lock went around 90,000.

Sunroof started to leak.

Those are 2 minor things.

1 major thing:

Auto transmission went at 98,500.

I now have to spend $1600 to get a performance rebuild on my transmission, and this is the lowest price I got.

General Comments:

This car's speed is just outrageous, plus it's got the fastest 4 cylinder motor (4g63t) in it. The engine puts out so much power so easily.

If your looking for a car to not have to spend much money, and yet get great gas mileage while being very fast, here is it.

Now the car isn't very roomy, so don't expect to take a bunch of your friends on a road trip or anything.

I also prefer this FWD over the AWD at some points here. First off, you are around 300lbs lighter, and it saves you a great amount of gas mileage. I'm sure it would help me in the winter, but with all that power, I think I would probably get into an accident right away.

I have spent around $800-$900 on my car so far into modifications, and I have added another 45-50 WHP already.

Plus no matter where you go, you make all the heads turn towards you. The car sounds like a huge vacuum coming down the street with the t25 turbo in it.

I would highly recommend this car to anyone.

1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 2.0L DOHC 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Great sporty car for really cheap!

Faults:

The horn suddenly stopped working.

Power antenna no longer works.

General Comments:

The car is fun to drive and looks awesome.

This is my first car and is really great looking. I am surprised at all the compliments i get for a car that cost me $4400! I was wondering if anyone here who has an eclipse has put an aftermarket exhaust on. If so, what kind do you recommend, and it is something almost anyone can install, or is a mechanic required?

You should install a borla exhaust I have one on my eclipse and it sounds awesome. and it really is not that hard to install you can install it with simple hand tools and some jack stands.

1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T Spyder 2.0 DOHC turbo 4G63 from North America

Summary:

Fastest and best looking package in its class EVER made. PERIOD

Faults:

Was boosting 17 psi on stock T-25 turbo. Needless to say, I blew it to bits. My fault. Replaced with upgrade.

Belt noises. Screeching is annoying, but dealer fixed it.

Windows rattle a lot. Annoying, seems like car may fall apart.

Transmission could have been designed better.

General Comments:

The fastest, best looking, and easily modifiable car in its class, ever made.

Stock internals on the 4g63 engine will handle massive levels of boost. In all essence, just slap in a bigger turbo and some fuel control, and you can turn up the boost without worrying about your rods exploding into your lap. What an awesome engine. The new Evolution has the same engine, with minor tweaks.

Beware of the infamous "crank-walk". Mitsubishi did not machine some of its crankshafts correctly. Do research on the net, you'll find loads of info. Only some 2G eclipses were affected.

The Eclipse will turn heads wherever you go, no matter how old it gets. It was an original idea, and stands out in the crowd.

1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Eclipse RS cheaper and crappier, Eclipse GS cheap and crappy, Eclipse turbo excellent

Faults:

Driver side door handle broke off the day I bought the car. Radiator need to be replaced 2 months after car was purchased. Windows wouldn't roll all the way up right, they rattled a lot. Engine seized and was replaced at 86,000 miles. Replaced timing chain, water pump, and serpentine belt at the same time. At 88,000 miles or 2,000 miles later the "new" engine threw a rod and somehow put 2 holes in my transmission case.

General Comments:

I loved the car. The looks, decent power, and great handling. Caught females attention everywhere I went regardless if it was clean or not, completly stock. For me the seats were very comfortable and the car had a decent stock stereo.
