1997 Mitsubishi Galant VR4 twin turbo 2.5 V6 twin turbo from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

A good cheap car

Faults:

Oil leak.

Interior worn.

Fog light button fell off..

General Comments:

Was a cheap run around car. Handled well, and was exceptional in power. Good value for money. Cheap to run, but it ain't good on gas. Depends really on how you drive it.

1997 Mitsubishi Galant GLS 2.0 turbo diesel from Lithuania

Summary:

It's vehicle for a practical family. Cheap to run. Good value. Nice looks

Faults:

When bought, engine belt changed, all filters changed (air, fuel, oil).

Suspension needs new parts quite often. Knocking sounds. Four times been to garage because of that. Maybe because of really bad Lithuanian roads.

Front brake discs and pads changed.

Gearbox once repaired. Minor issue.

Clock sometimes doesn't work and tachometer plays games, other minor issues with electronics.

General Comments:

Nice design. Can't believe it's Japanese.

Generally car is quite reliable, except the suspension maybe. Never had major problems.

The diesel engine is too weak for this car (66 kW). It accelerates quite slowly. With 5 people on board it feels like it's running with no engine. It's not very economical knowing it's diesel. 7,8 - 8,5 l/100km city, 6,5 - 7,5 l/100km highway.

2.5 V6 petrol recommended.

Comfort is good. Seats just fine. Good space in front, not very in the rear. Engine sound is annoying. Sound isolation actually is average.

Handles very good. Really fun to drive. But it's not a luxury car, far away.

1997 Mitsubishi Galant GLS 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Nice, nice, nice

Faults:

None, apart from one thing :) The balance belt snapped as wasn't replaced at the time it was supposed to be; the timing belt and balancing belt must be changed together, as if any of them goes off - another engine will be needed as it breaks the valves.

General Comments:

This car is really quick, even with the two litre engine.

The seats were still in good shape with no major marks.

Some say that the interior looks dull, but I didn't think it was.

I really liked the front of the car as it looks like a shark?

1997 Mitsubishi Galant LS 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

A Wonderful Little Car

Faults:

The only thing wrong was I had to replace the tight rods.

General Comments:

This car was amazing! it was my first car. It handled so nicely and was speedy for a little 4 cylinder. It was so reliable. I was really sad that I had it less than one year and a drunk driver hit me! The only thing that happened to the car was the fender got bend up pretty good, the hood slightly buckled, and the radiator busted. The drunk driver's car was absolutely crunched and destroyed (he had an 87 Oldsmobile). So the safety of the car is outstanding! I wish I could find another one. Also the gas mileage was outstanding!!!

1997 Mitsubishi Galant ES 2.4 from North America

Summary:

Mitsubishi is far better car than you think it is..

Faults:

The most annoying was the jerking of transmission when changing 1st to 2nd gear. It was there when I bought the car, and last owner insisted it was there from the beginning! However, during the time I have owned the car, it went worse. Sold it to avoid major transmission repair.

Ball joint went bad and had to replace at 92000miles.

Idle speed control motor went bad and had to replace at 95000miles.

Having check engine light for coolant sensor. Coolant was going low. There were no visible leak, however.

General Comments:

The most difficult thing of owning a Mitsubishi is to get replacement parts. Dealer parts are very expensive and there is no dealer in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada (Yes, that's true!!! The nearest one is in Hull, QC. Another one is in Kanata, but the one in Orleans closed recently!) Mitsubishi Canada should really focus on this issue as I think this is the most annoying when you run an old car with so rare parts.

The problem with transmission might be the lack of maintenance of last owner.
