2003 Mitsubishi Galant ES from North America

Summary:

I'm a believer

Faults:

Replaced battery at 45,000 miles.

No other faults whatsoever, just routine maintenance.

General Comments:

I put on over 46K miles over a three year period without one single serious problem. The car was always adult-driven, plus it was brand new, so I'm sure that helps, as with all cars.

I looked down on this car a little when I first got it. It struck me as cheap, with the cheesy interior trimmings, and the way it vibrated when you closed a door or the trunk. I can now say however that I'm a believer in Galants. The car gets up and goes when it needs to (I had the 4 cyl.), it breaks terrific, and even the tires were high quality goodyear eagles. The only thing I did in over three years was change the battery. The car felt great in any type of traffic, either heavy city type, or out on the highway, and the ride was as smooth and quiet as any I've seen. I don't have the car anymore, but looking back I realize how lucky I was to own it.

Just further proof to me that as with any automobile, there's a huge difference in buying new versus buying used. You get a used car, there's really just no telling what you're going to end up with. It's a calculated risk at any level, which is what I think accounts for a lot of the horror stories on here.

Faults:

No problems so far. Some minor scratches easily fixed with touchup paint from dealer.

I have owned this car for about 5000KMs now, and I am very impressed with it.

Got a lot of get up and go for just a V6.

Not a huge fan of the blue gauge cluster, but it grows on you.

2003 Mitsubishi Galant ES 2.4 from North America

Base Model Extravaganza

Faults:

Actually nothing at all. well no the heat didn't work so I took it to the dealership and they told me that the coil inside it broke so they fixed it and I got it back $650.00 but besides that nothing besides normal mantience.

General Comments:

Love the car, but not for me. I have put a lot of miles on it and I know it is a reliable car, but I want an SUV.

I have had the car for 9 months and I have put 26,000 miles on it this car will run forever.

2003 Mitsubishi Galant ES 2.4L from North America

Summary:

My Galant is a very good looking, sport, family car

Faults:

My front end started shaking around 50,000 miles while braking. I had the rotors turned & I installed ceramic front brake pads to help reduce the amount of heat the rotors would generate. At 80,000 miles I had to turn the rotors again so I opted for some slotted & drilled front rotors with a different brand of front ceramic brake pads. So far, so good.

My ride now stops on a dime!

The Bridgestone Turanza OE tires were good tires, but I feel like they wore out too quickly. I new have some BF Goodrich Touring radials and, so far, so good.

I rotate and balance the tires every 5,000 miles.

I change the oil & oil filter every 5,000 miles, and I have a magnetic oil drain plug installed.

NO major mechanical problems. Come to think of it, no problems of any kind really.

General Comments:

For a 4 cylinder, front wheel drive family car, this car sure hauls butt!

The fuel economy could be better (23 -27 MPG).

2003 Mitsubishi Galant ES 2.4 Liter Inline 4, SOHC, Sequential Fuel Injectio from North America

Summary:

Good-looking, quick, enjoyable 4dr Sedan

Faults:

Front right tire went flat two days after car was brought home, and dealer claimed to have put new tires on less than a month ago.

Windshield wipers quit going working when they were put on full-speed, but was fixed under warranty.

General Comments:

Good looking sedan, roomy, comfortable, reasonably fun to drive.

The 2.4 Liter engine has quite a bit of torque for a four cylinder, and after a few minor modifications (air intake, exhaust, Emissions Control Unit) the car can take quite a few stock and modified cars on the street.

The car handles really good for a midsize sedan, almost sports car like.

Enjoyable car to drive, complements are common, especially after the addition of a mesh-grille (I hated the inserts in-between the lights and the Mitsubishi logo so I opted for a mesh replacement), eurolights, exhaust, ground lighting, and Motegi 18" rims.

The interior is well-appointed, the seats are comfortable and quite supportive, the dashboard has a solid feel and looks good, and the stock stereo is amazing, several people have complemented my "sub-woofers" when I didn't even have any.

Gas mileage is pretty good for the cars acceleration and driving, I average about 26.5 mpg in a mix of city and country/freeway driving.

All in all I am happy with my Galant. I still miss my old car (1995 Pontiac Trans Am GTA) but Galant is a more practical and reasonable choice, and I guess that's what I need right now.
