2007 Mitsubishi Lancer ES 2.4 from Australia and New Zealand
Summary:
Reliable but unsophisticated cheap car
Faults:
Front springs sagged - replaced under warranty.
Front shocks noisy - replaced under warranty.
Drive by wire erratic at times - dealer could not fault.
Steering noisy - dealer could not fault.
Front disks warped and needed machining at 50,000.
Various rattles from dash.
Trim on doors wears quickly.
Speedo inaccurate - out by 10km at 100km - dealer said it was within accepted specs.
General Comments:
I was very happy when I first bought the car. But as time went on, I realised these things are built cheaply to sell cheaply. The suspension is not very good at all - lots of noise and wear out quickly.
The trim is very basic and cheap.
The speedo is inaccurate - out by almost 10km.
Until I moved back into a larger car, I did not realise how much engine and road noise penetrates into the cabin.
The seats have little padding and get uncomfortable on long trips.
The panels are thin and dent easily. The paint is soft and chips easily.
Performance wise - very good for a 4 cylinder, and better than most in its class. Handles hills very well.
Not the best fuel economy for a 4 cylinder.
Headlights are poor.
Overall, a reliable car. Very good for a first car. But not one you'll love to own if you appreciate cars.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

Matches my recollection of driving one from 0km to 120,000km.
Handling was poor through roundabouts at speed.
50lt fuel tank and 9.5lt/100km or worse meant that you were driving between petrol stations effective range 350km - 380km and the fuel warning light was on.
