1996 Mitsubishi Magna Altera 3.0 petrol from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Excellent

Faults:

There have been no faults with this car at all.

General Comments:

This car has been maintained to the highest standards, and serviced regularly every 10,000 kms using only Mobil 1 oil and genuine Mitsubishi parts.

There are no oil leaks at all, and it does not use any oil between services. On a country trip I get a very good 8.1 lts per 100kms.

I have had 4 Magnas, and this is the best one I have had. There have been no problems with the auto trans.

I will soon be buying the same model and year, hopefully I will have as trouble free a ride as you. Congratulations.

1996 Mitsubishi Magna Executive 3.0 V6 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Good car if well maintained

Faults:

Transmission occasionally changes gear harshly, it depends on how you drive. Tends to change gears better if you drive it harder.

Oil leaks through the cam cover seals. Rear bank is harder to get to. But easily enough to fix without a mechanic.

General Comments:

The car is a cheap comfortable car.

It's OK on fuel economy. I can get about 12.5L/100km city driving. Highway is about 10L/100kms.

Handles quite well for 20 year old standard suspension.

I have had this car for over 1 year now, and I haven't spent any money on it besides the oil changes.

Very quiet car too.

1996 Mitsubishi Magna TE Executive 3.0 V6 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Good reliable medium sized car

Faults:

Not much, just the CV joints.

Replaced timing belt at 190000km.

Replaced the left CV joint shortly after, and the right CV joint will need replacing soon.

Auto transmission sometimes a bit bumpy (hard throttle changes), but this is fixed by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. No problems with the engine though.

General Comments:

I use this car (TE Magna) for mainly highway driving, and it's pretty comfortable and good on fuel.

Have never had any major problems with the engine. Drives well uphills at speed, and is relatively quiet. Acceleration is decent at 0-100km/h in about 9 seconds.

Has good air conditioning and an excellent heater for the winter. This car also has factory cruise control, and it works well.

Some modifications are on the planning list such as upgraded suspension, sports exhaust, and 17 or 18" rims, or I'll likely upgrade to a TJ model.

1996 Mitsubishi Magna Executive 3.0 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Excellent

Faults:

Nothing wrong till now.

General Comments:

It is roomy and heavy. Makes you feel reliable, especially when you drive on a freeway. It is big enough for your family, and powerful to tow a cartage. I drove about 30,000KM till now, and I did not even spend $1 dollar on repairs. It was made in 1996, but till now it is still looks OK. Compared with a Camry 1996 and Honda 1996, the Magna has a good looking inside and outside.

Paint is good, it is still shining, even though it is 11 years old.

The interior has maintained well. No wear until now. Of course little plastic accessories were damaged by the previous owner and myself, because it is 11 years old.

Transmission is OK. Much better than the previous generation. No problem till now. Even sometimes it feels not perfect.

Brake is good. Done 30,000KM, haven't changed the brakes at all.

I think there might be some waste on the power, I mean the power system is not efficient enough. It is 3.0 V6 engine, but the acceleration is not as good as you imagine. But it is still OK, because it is not a sport car, and the weight of Magna is high.

Overall, it drives good, and smoothly. If the Magna or 380 have a smaller engine and keep the same weight, that will be great!!!

1996 Mitsubishi Magna TE 3.0L V6 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

A fantastic car to drive, with a lot of power

Faults:

The only thing that has gone wrong with the car, is that the air conditioning wasn't working due to an electrical fault, however this problem has been fixed, and it's now running perfectly fine.

General Comments:

This car is fantastic to drive, has awesome power from the 3 litre V6 engine in a 5 speed manual. It has enough power to beat R32 Skylines and Commodores.

The car handles extremely well for a FWD, however mine does have heavy duty suspension in it.

The only thing I will probably change is the seats; I will probably buy a set of Magna VRX seats.
