1978 Moskvitch 2140 1.5 from Czech Republic

Summary:

A big piece of solid metalwork

Faults:

Clutch pressure plate went wrong this year and I'm still looking for a spare part.

I bought the car with broken differential, had to replace it after a year.

General Comments:

I really love this car, it's big, heavy (Russians had experience only with tanks before ;) but the engine is really powerful (55kW) and has diesel-like torque on low rpm. Engine is copied from the well known BMW 1500 sportster.

Fuel consumption is about 8l/100km.

This Moskvitch performs well, especially on slippery surfaces, despite being rear wheel drive.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I had two Moskvitchs and one Aleko, and I was more than satisfied with them. I agree that it is not a good looking car, but when you look other that age, it isn`t so bad. First was built 1n 1979, second 1988, and Aleko in 1991. First was the best. They never left me on the road... only fuel consumption is pretty high. I know many people who had it and talk only the best about it.
