1991 Nissan 200SX 1.8 turbo from UK and Ireland

Faults:

My car has covered 120,000 miles and is still totally reliable. I've been told that there is an inherent problem with the bottom end, I've had the bearings replaced in mine. It also needed a new clutch (£250 fitted), but other than that no problems.

General Comments:

This is an amazing car! It has great performance and reliability. If you are thinking about getting one make sure its got a full service history and is well looked after. Look out for problems with rust at the front of the sills and in the boot also check for crash damage. If you can afford it go for the face-lifted model ('92+) as its got bigger brakes and an extra oil supply to the turbo (makes it last longer). I wouldn't recommend taking it to main dealers for work, I take mine to a 200SX specialist, they are cheaper and do a much better job.

1991 Nissan 200SX 1.8 turbo petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Nothing yet, I haven't owned it that long.

General Comments:

Very fast (but there's still faster cars out there). Comfort should read 9 in the front, 2 in the back. Fabulous fun in the dry on straight roads. Leave it at home if it's raining. Eats tyres.

1991 Nissan 200SX Executive 1.8 turbo petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

1st month - exhaust, catalytic converter, and more associated bits, over £1000 to fix (at dealer, hmmm).

3 months - engine, turbo, clutch. Over £2000 to fix (not at dealer).

8 months - whole car. I wrote it off in the wet and it didn't work after that.

General Comments:

I loved the car, but I was never confident that it would get me where I wanted to go. On a trip to France it used 6 litres of oil. In a week.

The French loved it though.

Common theme - handling in the wet, as mentioned above I wrote it off on a wet corner, damn.

Would love another, but the insurance would be too much this time.

1991 Nissan 200SX Executive 1.8 turbo petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Nothing, however I've only had it a couple of months.

General Comments:

I've just changed from a Celica GT4 Turbo which was a very capable car. The Nissan although it doesn't quite handle as well would leave it standing in the performance stakes. For a 1.8 the power and speed are truly incredible!!

1991 Nissan 200SX 1.8 16v turbo petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Clutch needed replacing after 75,000 miles.

Wind noise from drivers side door at motorway speeds. Possibly poor sealing around frameless windows. Any suggestions to fix?

General Comments:

Fantastic performance especially overtaking.

Great handling.

It's nice to drive something different - you don't see many on the roads.

Faults:

Blown valve (that the useless Nissan dealer couldn't spot). Gets through tyres very quickly.

General Comments:

Excellent car if a bit of a handful in the rain. Very fast, lovely handling. Very comfortable in front though dash is a bit cheap feeling. Wish I could have kept it!

1991 Nissan 200SX Executive 1.8 turbo petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

I have replaced the exhaust with a new Janspeed system, removed the catalyctic converter and had the chip upgraded by Superchips .

This has vastly improved the fun aspect of the vehicle and I doubt if there are many other machines about that are as quick or as reliable for the amount of money spent.

1991 Nissan 200SX 1.8 turbo petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Turbo and clutch replaced. Routine stuff (tyres, servicing etc.)

Design Flaw: If you open the hatchback when the car is wet, water drips into the boot off the tailgate!

General Comments:

A very responsive, lively car to drive and extremely quick. The seats are very comfortable but space for rear passengers is almost non-existent. Totally reliable. Bad points: expensive insurance, high servicing costs and tyre wear.
