Hello everyone, I am fortunate enough to own both a 2004 Mustang GT and a 1989 240SX. I take car of both these cars.
I have to say that although the 240 is no slouch, the GT can easliy smoke it. Both cars are stock. I am offering my unbiased opinion.

You're not comparing apples to apples. Mustang is nice, but a lot newer... and how much petrol will it burn as compared to the 240? Love my Nissan for economic reasons and can still have the fun I would have in a GT. By the way, I have a 1991 Corvette also, but wouldn't compare the two because each is a separate class car with their own pros and cons!!!

OK so maybe the 240 is not a beast stock, but as someone said it depends on the driver. Put a SR20DET 240 with clutch, lowered, LSD, intake, exhaust upgrades, and the Stank will be left in the dust, take some more off of that already lightweight 240 and the mustang won't even be close, all for less than 6000$? gas still stays the same...2 liter engine. how much did you pay for your GT? and how much gas does it eat?, does it stick to the road like a 240? Don't think so...

A stock 240 could dust a v-6 mustang without breaking a sweat. Really the only gt mustang a stock 240 might have a chance against would be a 96-98 with the weak 4.6 sohc and a automatic. I owned a stock 98 gt with a 5 speed and it was faster than my 240,but not by much.96-97gts are only rated at 215hp,98s 225hp, so a lightly modded 240 could probably beat one. I bought my 93 240 in summer 2005 with 156,000 miles on it so I didn't have drive my cobra to work every day. Its got 166,000 on it now and I plan to drive it until the wheels fall off. I drive the crap out it and it just loves it. I can only pray my cobra will even be running at 166k, let alone take any sort of beating. Overall a great little reliable car.

I bought a 240sx in 2003 for 3500. It had 62k on it when I bought it! The only problem with it now is the driver's seat has been worn. My car turns more heads than any 1990 mustang gt I've ever seen! It is a lighter weight car than a 'tang and gets better gas mileage. I'll stick with my 240 for the next 150k while your 'tang burns you in gas and payments for the next 5 years!

Don't forget the most important thing the horsepower to weight ratio. I own a 88 mustang gt and sometimes wish I had a 240.

I got a 1989 240sx with a 90 motor in it. Its completely stock. I got it for 250 bucks.. put a new fan clutch, head gasket, and a few other minor things. Haven't timed it yet or anything, but wow this thing is punchy. with 4 people in the car, give it like 1/2 throttle and they will just light up into 2nd gear. love my 240.

Love my Nissan 240SX 1991.
I'm currently having it restored. New sound system, interior completely redone. A new paint job for the outside. So, now the obvious is what can I do to the stuff under the hood.
How many horses can I put in there? What would I need to change? New Transmission?
The 240SX is a fun car to ride... now, it's time to give it more power.

I recently just got a 1990 240SX stock automatic, I was just wondering how well it compares to other cars like the mustang GT or the 1999 acura integra.

You guys obviously don't know about the 240 aftermarket; with a swapped sr20det, which costs about 2 grand (a japanese motor), they can run 400hp with a stock bottom end, and 400 in that 240 would smoke anything on the street, including that guys blown Chevy, because 2600 lbs gets moving a lot quicker than your 5000lb monsters.
