1997 Nissan Altima GXE 2.4 twin cam from North America

Summary:

Looking for another one for my elderly mom; that says enough

Faults:

Bought the car, which didn't run to save its life. Three hundred dollars for parts, and the car runs pretty smooth for still not being done.

Mass air flow, knock sensor, crankshaft positioning sensor, CV joint (driver's side), fuel filter, trans filter and fluid, oil filter and fluid, plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. Still doesn't like stopping and idling, but will bang out 70-75 up hill in low 2. Can't wait till the car is perfect to see just how fast it really is.

General Comments:

The car rocks; plenty of power if driven like you stole it.

Pretty good handling for bald tires and bad shocks.

Motor mounts don't last long due to too much torque.

It won't idle when stopped because it needs an intake manifold gasket. It's the only major fault with these cars.

1997 Nissan Altima GXE 2.4L, 4 cylinder, gas from North America

Summary:

A Japanese Masterpiece!

Faults:

Serpentine belt replaced. Leaks a little oil. Drivers side window is off track. These are the only minor problems I've had in the 5 months of owning this car!

General Comments:

I'm very happy with this car, it just goes and goes with virtually no major problems, great reliability. It has sat only 2 days without driving it since I've owned it.

It has ample power and the transmission shifts great.

It's stylish both inside and out, I love the faux rosewood dash trim. It is teal with gray interior.

I like the fact it has a timing chain instead of the belt.

I would certainly buy another Nissan, and I have no doubt this one will make it to 300,000 miles, maybe even more with regular maintenance. I highly recommend!

I'm the original poster of this review. I bought the car one year ago today, still no major problems! It is now up to 232,000 miles, and the only problem I've had since I wrote this review was a blown fuse. It is now up to 232,000 miles and counting!

Well worth the $1200 I paid for it. My next car will certainly be a Nissan, they are just as good as a Toyota or a Honda.

1997 Nissan Altima GXE 4 cylinder gasoline from North America

Summary:

170k miles for 2000 dollars is well worth it!

Faults:

Brakes, tires, oil changes, alternator, battery and that's it.

General Comments:

My car has 170k on it. Car has been in 3 car accidents, one in which I slammed into a crane that fell off the back of a truck (car was claimed totaled). One my girlfriend did a 360 and slammed a rail (car was claimed totaled). The last car accident was a minor fender bender, but the car still drives fine and starts fine.

Besides me having to rebuild the whole front end (hood, radiator support, radiator, two fenders, bumper support, bumper, and two headlights) which cost me about 600 bucks in parts, both times, the car is so great. So the car company saying my car was totaled was wrong because with both car accidents combined, I used 1200 bucks worth of parts to put the car back to normal.

The car goes together like a Lego set. Everything has a bolt or clip, and is so easy to figure out. Someone with minor mechanical experience can work on this car with ease.

I have changed the oil every 3000; I do brakes whenever I hear the first squeak; and tires, alternator and battery. For a car that has 170 thousand miles, that's a joke.

I like to calculate my two car accidents and the price of the car together, which is 3200 dollars, and I would pay that again if I knew I was going to get 170k out of a car.

This car is well worth the money, great for a college kid like myself. I sometimes leave the car outside my dorm for weeks on end, and once I put the key in the ignition, the car starts like I drove it the day before.

I love the car so much that I want to buy a similar one with lesser miles, or possibly a newer model.

By the way, the car sips gas; I get 30 mpg on the highway, on cruise control at 70.
