2009 Nissan Altima Coupe S 2.5 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Just as reliable as any Honda!

Faults:

Not one single thing!

General Comments:

I bought this car new, and have loved it since day one.

I previously owned 3 Hondas' my first was a 1999 Civic EX coupe, then I had a 2002 Accord EX 4 cyl coupe, and my last car was a 2007 Accord EX V6 coupe, and all of them were wonderful cars.

I had originally went back to the local Honda dealership for a new 2009 Accord coupe, which was where I have gone for all of my Honda's in the past, but after the way they treated me, wanting me to do a credit check before even being allowed to test drive a car and then being told "We won't haggle on the sticker price, because Honda's sell themselves." I walked out and went next door to the Nissan dealer and bought my Altima coupe. I then drove my new Nissan right back to Honda and told the sales man "You just lost a sale!" and drove off, and I have not and won't be back there again!

With over 76,000 miles, this car has been just as reliable and wonderful as any of my Honda's have been. It has way more standard and optional equipment, and was better priced than the Accord. But I will say, one big plus with having a Honda was always the high resale value. It was always really good when it was time to sell, even with high miles on the car. Nissan's don't really seem to have as good of a resale value, but when compared to a lot of other brands, it's not bad at all.

My friend owns a 2008 Altima and highly recommends it to me. I test drove one, and was impressed with the smooth quiet ride as well. I haven't made up my mind yet, but considering an Altima if I can get a discount after Christmas.

Why is it that Honda dealers are so arrogant? I was looking at a Civic recently, and boy were they ever rude to me at the Honda dealership. They act like their cars are better than BMW or Benz, but they are just economy cars, prone to problems just like any other brand. I decided to not buy a Honda just because of their bad attitude, but their lack of a decent warranty behind their product was also a big factor.

If their cars are so reliable as they claim, why won't they back it with a warranty? Nissan stands by their product, which gives me more confidence.

I've wanted one of these ever since I saw them. I mean damn, it's a coupe and that 3.5 with a MANUAL tranny.. that transmission option is what excited me. I bet that sucker takes off like a rocket! Why buy a 350Z or Infiniti G35/G37 coupe when you can get that Altima for a lot less?

Why get a G? Styling (admittedly, that's subjective), the viscous LSD, bigger brakes, better interior, gadgets, fit and finish, and more options.

And for those of us who bring it to the track, it's also RWD.

(yes I'm a G owner)

2009 Nissan Altima Coupe S 2.5 from North America

Summary:

Great sporty car!!

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with the car.

General Comments:

I've had the car for over 7 months and it still feels brand new.

I got it in October 08, and being from Ottawa, it did great in the snow. Never got stuck anywhere, and almost never had any wheel spin (unless I floored it).

The two cars that I compared were the Honda Accord 2dr. & Altima Coupe, and while the Accord is a great car, the Altima's styling won me over.

The CVT is also great, it can tell when you are driving more aggressively, and if you want a little more fun you can put it in manual mode. The good thing about this manual mode is that it will let you rev. the engine, and won't change "gears" unless you do it.

The gas consumption is also great, I'm averaging 8.5L/100km, and this is 99% city driving. On a trip to Toronto & Montreal, I've had this down to 6.5L/100km. It's no Prius, but it's exceptionally good for a car this size and sporty.

Mechanically the car is FLAWLESS. The only thing that I've noticed (because no car is perfect) is that there is a little bit of squeaking noise close to the sunroof (when open), and the steering wheel also has a little bit of squeaking. It's very minor, however it's worth mentioning.

All in all, I'm extremely happy with my purchase.

I have to agree with this review, we liked the 2009 coupe, but couldn't find one we wanted so we bought a white pearl 2010 2.5s coupe instead, and did consider the Accord, but the styling of the coupe my wife fell in love with, and she loves driving it. It's sporty without being a racey type of car. Its 2.5 4 cyl engine had more than enough pep and great mileage too, and the CVT trans makes it quite peppy for a 4 banger. We got it loaded with all the goodies except the navigation. Best move we did is buy this car with a good reputation.

I am a former Nissan employee who worked at the Smyrna, Tennessee assembly plant for a short time until I finished my engineering degree. I haven't been very happy with the Altima Sedan, as the competition in this market sector is very high, especially after driving a 2010 Hyundai Sonata rental car (which impressed me far more than a Toyota Camry LE).

However, my wife and I will be in the market for a new car at the end of the year, and had all but dismissed the Altima Coupe as a viable option until my wife took a second look.

The facelift prompted us to drive a mid-level 2.5S with the premium package (still had cloth seats, but included bluetooth, backup camera, and Bose stereo with iPod interface). The drive was everything I thought it would be... comfortable. This would be the perfect car for my wife who is about 108lbs and 5'2" on a good day - as she says. Bless her heart, she's not the best driver, but has managed to never have had a wreck on the mean streets of Houston, Texas.

She found that the Altima Coupe was very easy and pleasant to pilot, with a hint of sportiness (I say hint because I drive a 2008 350Z). We were so impressed that we opted to drive a 3.5SR as they are now badged. The 3.5 was noticeably quicker, and should we decide to purchase, the VQ is the engine of choice, since I have inside knowledge of the 2.5's rough beginnings - owners calm down, most kinks have long been worked out of the motor.

Anyway, I figured I would comment, since I was pleasantly surprised that the Altima Coupe has been added back to our shopping list!
