I have also seen the transparent tape on my '97 I think it is due to a recall.

I have the same clear tape. I just bought a 1997. I took it off and there is a small chip or something under it. Has anyone installed any performance parts that they would recommend? Thanks Micah.

I believe the clear tape, which I have on my model, 95 Nissan XE Kingcab, was due to a factory "service bulletin."
This addressed the issue of a "loping idle" problem which was common on these pick ups.
Moisture would get into this connection which controls the computer, causing the irregular idle.
The fix was temporary and should have had the connector replaced, but no official recall was issued.

I have the same clear tape on my 1995 King Cab. Does anyone know what is going on with all these wires?

Hey Nissan Friends,
I was reading your comments on the 97 Nissan's and saw all the gossip about the recall, so naturally I went outside and popped my hood... sure enough I have the same transparent tape on my wiring harness topped off with a zip strip. Garrett - Tallahassee, Fl.

When I bought my '97 Nissan 4x4, the first thing I noticed was the clear plastic tape right by the valve cover and above the intake manifold. It's nice to have some idea of why it is there, but if anyone has a more permanent solution, I would be very grateful.

Hi. Same thing here on my 97 xe 4x4 p/u. It's right above the valve cover. I'm thinking that maybe wrapping some electrical tape over the clear tape might secure it a little better, but that is by no means the perm solution I want.
I'll be giving a dealer a call and see if they have a more permanent fix.

I also have a 97 Nissan and I love it. I need to check out the tape thing due to unexplained idle problems in the rain.

Guys, I haven't seen any clear tape, but I love this truck (97) it just doesn't give up 250,000 miles and running.

Best truck ever. I have a 97 nissan hardbody lifted with 31 inch off road tires and I go everywhere jeeps can make it. I love this truck.

Question on a 97 Nissan 4x4. We are having a problem with power being drained from the battery. The only place we have found to stop this is by unplugging the feed wire to the fuse box from the battery cable. We have tried everything we know even to trace this down. We unplugged the computer under the passenger seat and then tried removing each fuse one by one, and still have about 3 volts, passing through and will drain the battery in around two days. If I have explained this to where anyone can understand, please send a clue our way.

I have a 1997 Nissan 4X4 pickup and the battery would drain also. After many dead batteries and checking everything., it turned out to be my radar detector that was wired into the system. I never thought such a small device would have that much drain on the battery. After turning it off, the problem was solved.

Put a leer topper on my 97 Nissan XE, and it matched perfectly! Last year 2009. My check engine light stays on, but it has never ever missed a beat. Without question the best vehicle I have ever owned!

Funny, I put a Lear topper on mine, and it matches perfectly. I have 168,000 on mine and just started running synthetics, and I'm amazed at the smoothness of this little truck. This is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned; no oil leaks, no loss of compression, runs like a top. I will keep this guy forever.

Hey, I just bought my 1997 Hardbody. It has 194K miles on it. It runs like a champ. It has A/C, 5spd 4x4. I would love to find all the options that were available for it back in 1997, but don't know where to start. If you have one with all the options, I would love to pick your brain. Don't know how hard the parts are going to be to find for this baby... but don't plan on selling it... love it! Thanks for looking!

I just bought a 1996 Nissan 2 x 2 truck. I saw the same transparent tape. Can someone tell us what that was from?
Adrianne.
