1995 Nissan Micra Mauritius 1.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A great little, reliable pocket rocket

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

This is the first car I have ever owned and it is brilliant. When I learned to drive I used a Vauxhall Corsa and it was rubbish in comparison. This car is fast for a 1.0, comfortable and very economical. My dad has a Laguna 2.0 and a Golf 1.8 and he was very impressed with the performance. The car I have is a 3 door and everyone who gets in it mentions on how much space that there is. I bought this car from an old lady and it was immaculate. I am only 18 years and I disagree with the "feminine" look that the press mention. You really have to drive this car to realise how good it is. My mate owns a 51reg Fuesta and even he has mentioned how good the car is and how the Turquoise colour sparkles. I will keep you updated and this car continues performing as it does then I will definitely move up to a 5 door or a 1.3s (insurance purposes)

At the moment the only problem I have had is the glass in my door fell. This was easily fixed by popping it back into the bracket. Personally, I think that this car is incredible. It is economical and very reliable. Although I am 18 years old, I don't think people realise that these cars fulfil the needs of the younger generation. In fact I quite like the fact that older people drive these cars, as it gives these cars more appeal. (there are no scallys driving them). The only thing which I don't like about the car is the way the car responds to potholes, also speed bumps. By dad said the small suspension was the cause. I am not that concerned though because it is only small car and you can only really avoid the bumps in some luxorious car, which it isn't. I also wish that these cars would contain a tachometer (Or rev counter to us common people) but I know when to change gear by the sound of the engine. 5,000 miles and no problem can't wait to upgrade to a 5 door or 1.3. P. s I will keep you informed.

1995 Nissan Micra L 1.0 16v Twin Cam petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Quicker than any other 1.0!

Faults:

I have had nothing go wrong with the car in general. I had an accident in which I damaged the front wing, bumper and light. I replaced the light and wing. I got both the parts for £15 from a scrappers! Cheap!

Seats started to wear out. Not as stiff as they used to be. Engine took a second or more to start up. There was an awful noise from the engine when cold, I was told it was the chain. still didn't fix it though. Drove perfect.

General Comments:

This car is very quick compared to other 1.0litres. I have done 60mph in 2nd gear and 85mph in 3rd. That's excellent performance from a 1.0. I've outraced many cars in my time of ownership, it may look a bit feminine, but its reasonable fast. Top speed was 106...ish.

Good Miles per gallon. 40mpg in town and 50+ on motorway.

Drives very comfortably until 90mph.

Great review. Do they actually go that fast? I might be getting one of these as my first car.

They do not go that fast unless you needlessly.

Thrash them! mine is the 1993 54BHP version.

Up to 90 Mph OK, anything over it will wail like a banshee.

Very poor 1st and 2nd gears, will take you to 30 Mph tops.

Anything above 85 Kmh / 55 Mph I have to change to 5th.

1995 Nissan Micra L 1.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Superb Japanese Petrol Sipper!

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong except the usual wear and tear items.

General Comments:

Excellent little car with amazing economy, comfort and refinement for such a small car. Handles well although is a little unstable in high winds. Not the best looker, but in a different class to the agricultural 1996 Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 that I test drove (Nova in drag!).

The best thing about this car is the economy and the very good performance for a mere 1.0 litre car. The car was pretty expensive to buy which is due to the excellent press the car receives for it's reliability and economy. I could have purchased a nasty bag of spanners like a 106, Clio or Fiesta for a little cheaper. However the extra outlay is worth every penny!

Only thing I dislike about the car is the lack of front intermittent windscreen wipers which is so mean by Nissan. Also the price of Nissan parts is complete extortion, although this is helped by the fact that thankfully you do not need to use them to often as the car is so reliable.
